Last night, as I left home to purchase a new vehicile, I had my heart set on a Ford Mustang. However, when I went to the ford dealership in town, Mel Hamilton Ford, I felt as if I was literally swimming in the water with sharks in a feeding frenzy. They have a sign that guarantees to undersell any Ford dealer in the state of Kansas. They wouldn't budge from the price and made my brother and I leave through some less than ethical methods. They wanted $7,500 OVER sticker, who ever is paying that is an absoulute MORON especially when in 5 months Ford will have the market flooded and have $2000 in rebates. I left the dealership 50 minutes after arriving having never even test driven the mustang.
Well the second choice on my list had always been the the Titan. I got to the dealership and I was test driving the Titan in 5 minutes. The dealer was extremly friendly. After the test drive I was blown away with how much fun it is to drive the Titan. This is Just an Awesome Truck. I asked to test drive a Z just to answer my curiosity about a sports car, and yes it was a kick, but nothing comapred to the Titan. The actual making of the deal took five minutes. We ended up at a price that was WELL under invoice, and I have a new truck today.
If anyone is in Kansas and looking to buy a Titan go through Wichita's local Nissan Dealership they will treat you right.
awesome, congrads, hope to have me one soon........i know, i know, i get tired of saying this about every post.....but im gonna get one this year sometime....
don't know about your area , but here the Mustangs are sold before they get them on the showroom, If that is your case, then you can't blame them for not dealing with you. Play Monopoly sometime.
I was more than willing to order a Stang and wait the two months it will take to get it in. My problems was the way that they tried to back out of thier we will beat any price in the state guarantee. I found an offer 200 miles a way for $50 over invoice. Thier guarantee says that they will beat any price in the state or the car is free. Well when they could not beat the price they tried everything in thier powers to make us walk. We walk without ever having driven the car.
Was checking out Stangs on the web yesterday and read an interesting story about the instrument clusters. You evidentally can change the color of the guages to one of over 100 different colors. Sounded like the owner could just change his mind everyday and have a different color. Least thats how it sounded.
Well turns out the technology from that item has a patent that Ford basically blew off and now they are really dragging their feet paying the guy who developed it. He and his laywer were quoted and sounded like the fees they wanted amounted to about 4 bucks per car. They said Ford was not delivering/holding some Stangs till they found a way around paying or a way to minimize their pay-out on a blown off patent. The owner of the patent sounded tired of waiting. Ford may end up paying alot more than 4 bucks a car..
Now for the rant! I've owned two Mustangs, a 67 Fastback and an 87 LX 5.0 and I'm sick of Fords retro look stuff. I'm amazed they resisted making the 500 look like an aerodynamic Granada.
Dodge and Nissan are cool about using details from theirs cars past in the styling to make something that looks familiar, yet modern. The 350Z and new Dodge Firepower! concept are examples of this. Ford did a total cop-out with the Mustang and GT (the GT-40 clone) by carrying over too much styling from the old cars. It gets to the point where it's not heritage, its just copying old ideas to make up for unimaginative designers. I think this is a real bad move on the Mustang, because it's probably gonna be stuck with that 1966 body long after the retro craze is dead. The interior is hideous. It looks like my 67, but done in Playskool plastic.
The Ford GT is a car that will run with Ferraris and it's saddled with Speed Racer styling. The Thunderbird is already a discontinued dud, and I think that shows others dislike this retro trend.
I think that markup on new models is ridiculous!! Cars do not retain their value unless it is a very limited edition. I doubt the Stang would fall in that category. A mustang will likely depreciate at the same rate as its peers. It would be idiotic to pay this markup when you will likely be able to purchase at below MSRP in a few months.
My previous vehicle was a 2001 yellow Xterra. When I was shopping initially in the summer of 2000, the dealership wanted $3000 over MSRP. Needless to say, I laughed and walked away. I purchased it in the fall of 2000 for below MSRP.

I ordered a new Ford F150 Supercrew Lariat that was pretty much loaded. When I ordered it they appraised my truck at a trade in value of $25,000. I told the salesman that I would shop it around and see if there was a better offer out there. As time went on and it got close to the time that my new Ford was going to come in I advertised my truck for sale (2002 F350 CC Lariat Diesel Longbed). I got some bites but no takers because it was 2 wheel drive (in the words of potential buyers). Keep in mind that my price was higher than trade value. One Saturday I took it to Carmax to see what they would give me for it. They told me $25,400. I decided to take that paperwork to "my" Ford dealer to see if they would match it. When I got there I found out that my new F150 had arrived the day before. They even took me on the back lot to show it to me. I hadn't put any money down because they told me I didn't have to. When I asked my salesman to match Carmax's offer he took my truck down to the used car guys again and they would not come up the $400.00 to match it. They wouldn't even come up to Kelly Blue Book trade which was $25,200. I told him that if they wouldn't even match Carmax then I wouldn't buy the new truck from them. Then he went and got a manager who came in and tried to talk down to me like I didn't know what the truck was worth. He even had a KBB printout with him. I asked to see it. It was for a short bed with fewer options/accessories that mine had on it. I told him flat out that if they couldn't match Carmax's offer there was no deal. I also reminded him that I was a repeat customer (bought the wife an Expedition there last year). No dice, sorry we can't do business. On the way home I stopped at the Toyota dealer and looked at the Tundra's. Nice, but too small for me. On Sunday I told my wife that I wanted to go look at the Nissan's. I had seen some in traffic but never really up close. We went and browsed the lot when they were closed. I couldn't believe the prices and all of the standard features on the LE's. I went back on Monday evening and test drove a couple of them (bucket seats and bench). I really liked the truck so I had them appraise my F350 for trade in. The salesman came back and told me they would give me $26,000 for it. Then we worked a deal on the type of truck I wanted. Now we had to find it. Through my late night research and the salesman's nationwide search we found three like I wanted in the lower United States. The closest was in Nashville but it had 193 miles on it. The next two were both about 1100 miles from my Nissan dealer. I told them I wanted the one in Charleston S.C. and that I wanted it trucked to me so it would have almost no miles on it (I called the dealer in Charleston and it only had 18 miles on it). I put down a small deposit and they went and got it. I picked it up this morning with 19 miles on it. The true cost on my truck was $100.00 under invoice. The Ford salesman left a message on my answering machine the Tuesday after they lost my business saying that if I came in they would "try" and meet me half way on the difference. I sure am glad they were greedy. I found a better truck with more standard features for less money.
Hmm whats going on with poor service at Ford dealerships. Oh well guess we are finiding better vehicles anyways. So everyone but Ford comes out the winner.
Which part of Texas are you in Steve V? I was also trying hard to decide between the nissan and the new f-150. The f-150 has smaller doors on the front than the extended cabs....makes the truck seem more balanced between front/rear room, when it isn't. I really like my nissan crew cab and from now on, the only fords I see are in the mirror.

You should drive by that dealership w/ your new truck, and show them what they missed!

Here in AZ they have a part of the DMV that does investigations on car dealers. It's an investigative and regulatory branch that handles all sorts of stuff. I would look into that in your state. I know that you have your truck and are happy but dealers like that need a kick in the arse every now and then.
The investigators can do audits and make a dealers life miserable. Besides the fact that they are false advertising. I would call and file a complaint and tell them you want your free stang!! JMO though.
Later and ENJOY that truck!!!
