What's up guys and gals,
what is the best way to re-fill your diffs? I usually buy one of those small pumps, but it takes so long to fill. Can I just put a funnel on a hose and empty the bottles into it? I've done this before, but just wanted to see if any of you have better ways to do this. Also, what do you think about putting the heavier synthetic in the 04' diff opposed to the required weight?

You won't need anything. The front is a PITA to get the bottle high enough to squeeze it in once the bottle is half empty so I just bought another quart and was about to fill it that way. The rear is simple. The Mobil1 I used comes with a handy pointed filler nozzle.
I use Mobil 1 75-90w. I have some difficulty refilling the rear differential because the spare tire is in the way. I bought a Flow Tool which is a clear plastic tool that screws onto the plastic Mobil bottle. You can twist it to turn the flow on and off and the flexible clear hose lets you see the fluid going in. This makes the process a lot easier. These are sold at almost every automotive parts retailer like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc. for just a few dollars. I think the pump thing you add onto the bottle would work well also.

I got a pump at auto zone for approx $7. Looks like a grease gun with an approx 1/2" hose (guessing at size, it's been a few months since I used.) Stick the end of the hose into the oil and pull the lever to suck oil into the gun, push to pump it back out. Could be used to suck old out if we didn't have a drain hole.
Nissan recommends Permatex 56521 or Nissan 999mp-am002p. I use pipe dope that I already had that has Teflon in it. It says on the jar that it is approved for high temp, high pressure, and contact with petroleum based products. It has worked well for me. Below is the Permatex that Nissan recommends.

You can do a search on "rear differential fluid" and get reading material for a long, long time! Bottom line is, most of the Titans come from the factory with low fluid levels. Also, the rear differential gear oil volume is relatively small, thus the factory dino gear oil tends to overheat on a regular basis. Many members have drained (and noticed globs of "gunk" build-up on the drain plug), and then changed the gear oil to a synthetic (Mobil 1 75-90W seems to be very popular). The synthetic seems to hold up better to the heat.

Even after a few thousand miles of towing the rear diff fluid was burnt, black, and gunked up. Swap it out with Mobil 1 75w/90, easy to do, and no more paint burning off diff cover and smell of propane at gas stops (from the smell of the burnt rear diff fluid venting out the axle.)

Thanks for the info, would this apply to me even though i don't tow anything.
If i change out the diff fluid to the synthetic mobil 1 how long am i good for.
When you refill the diff do you fill it until it starts running out of the filler hole? Like the old trucks.
How much does it hold?
Yes, you just keep filling until it starts to pour back out. It's a little over a QT (of was that a little under a QT..lol) not sure of the exact amount. Nut if it's coming back out, it's full.
