Head rest question

So I heard that 2005 head rest is a better fit compared to the 2004 head rest.... hmm, so in other words the 2004 piece is not a good design, there for dangerous to occupants, ... and would really hate to be rear-ended and injure my neck because of this "not so good design" head rest....
hmm again... I believe Nissan should replace the head rest for a new one (at no charge) that properly fits the 2004 Titans, or are they waiting for an injure to happen.

I was checking to see how much distance there is when I seat, and... well I am not an expert, but that head-rest does not look right, and I read that some members purchased new 2005 headrests and they fit well, the way it should be, right?

I would like to hear your opinions.

i don't think the 04 headrests are faulty or poor. they fit my seat fine. the 05's are a more forward design and have a different safety feature. better technology doesn't warrant replacement of older technology. cars are upgraded every year, so you're never going to "improve with age." i think asking nissan to replace them free would be like me taking my computer back to HP and telling them they ought to replace the 2.8 Gig processor with the 3.0 gig that came out a month after i bought the computer. just my 2cents.

Just an observation...I don't think I've actually ever rested my head on the headrest. I'm sure that it will come in handy if I ever get rear ended. But as far as comfort, I have not complaints.

tried the new headrest - great but not worth $120

they're a big improvement. but my gosh $120 a piece is highway robbery. what is the "technology" in them that makes them worth that much. i don't get it!?!

$120? That better be for a pair, because they are $80 each from my dealer, and that's leather.

OK, so here is another quetion, in a heavy accident (rearended) how protected are our heads and neck from injury produced by a headrest possitioned in the wrong place?...

Wrong possition to me is way too back, it should be closer to the head like the 05's are... in the other hand I guess the NTSB or insurance crash testing, would of find that out when they crash and grade the trucks for safety. well never mind I guess there is no argument here.... I am not a lawyer it just dosen't smell right to me...
ok people thank you for your coments.

Someone posted the link before...go to the crash test of the '04 Titan that was done...she faired better than most...yes, I realize that crash tests are done frontal collision. But as far as I know, there are no regulations that any of the manufacturers need to adhere too for a whiplash/rear end collision scenario other than rear bumper strength requirements? And for a lot of states, a rear bumper is not required.

I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere that when you are in an accident the headrest in the '05 actually moves forward (ACTIVE head restraint system) so that your head hits it instead of bending backwards and causing whiplash. That would lead me to believe that the seats in the '05's are entirely different than those in the '04's. It's a whole different and new safety feature that was not in the '04's. I wouldn't think that just putting the new headrests in an '04 would make it very much safer, but the new headrests are easier to lean your head back on (I had to drive an '05 all week las week and made sure I checked it out---I sure wouldn't pay $100 for the new ones)..

So, your logic is that if Nissan makes any comfort or safety upgrades to our trucks in the future they are obligated to change our trucks to match? For free????

Why stop there? Why not expect Nissan to replace our engines if they increase the displacement and HP on future Titan engines? For free.

A good way to ensure your Titan remains current is to buy a new one every year. Then you can avoid that expensive headrest upgrade, right?

It's not ACTIVE in that regard....there is a plate inside the seat that the post come against to keep the headrest forward...active in the sense your body wieght will keep pressure on the plate or even push it a bit to move the headrest forward or at worst keep it in the same position which with the tilt keeps your head from going back as far as the '04's.

That's correct. If you are hit from the rear your body is pushed back into the seat. A mechanical linkage then causes the headrest to move forward. This feature has been on some other Nissans for at least two years, such as my wife's Murano. Installing 05 headrests in 04 seats will not give you this feature, although the 05s are more forward initially than the 04s.

Good points jefecinco, couldn't have said it any better myself.
I'm just glad that I own a truck that is manufactured by a progressive company that try's to improve on each model.
I wouldn't want it any other way.
