Can you see sun light between tail gate and wall?

Hi All,

When I looked out the rear window I could see sun light between the tail gate and the side walls though the gate seemed to be properly shut.

Large air gaps about 1 inch at the top!

Please let me know as I am considering getting a cap but if there is that much space, is my truck missing a moulding or something?

i noticed a gap when looking from the rearview when i first bought my truck. it was a concern for me since my pupies live in the back of the truck every other weekend when driving to my inlaws. everything looks in good alignment for the tailgait. not sure why the gap. i have an are cap but don't have any problems with it because of the gap other than loss of heat. i was going to put some foam molding in there but have been too lazy. have not gone to the inlaws with the pups this month because of the weather. i am hoping there is just some molding missing.

I don't think anything is missing, but I could be wrong. I've had a few pickups like that - where you could see light through the tailgate. I don't think they're meant to be "airtight". I wouldn't worry about it.

Your tailgate is fine and isn't missing anything. Everybody's has the gap, at least with the '04s. It's due to the way the tailgate is shaped with a bevelled edge instead of square like most tailgates. I haven't noticed any water coming in the gap since I put my soft cover on, but there's lots of weather-stripping available that can help seal the gap if you need to.

Now if the gaps are different from one side to the other, that's a different issue that's been argued over recently over in the Problems forum.

If you have a 1" gap, somethings not right. 1/4" maybe but not 1". Have it loked at.

Hi DeTitan.....TitanKen made an excellent post.......or thread?????? on how to close it all up and shows pics and all on TT.......I bought the stuff but will probably install it in the 05 if I go that route. I used some black door edge trim on the sides and that was good too for chip protection.

Thanks for the re-assurance and thread info.

Hi Gang,

Thanks to all your informative posts, it is great to get so much information about the truck ahem Vehicle here. Me ole wife does not like it to be called a truck and want a cap to disguise it as an SUV as fast as possible!

I my opinion it is going to be a true Sports UTILITY Vehicle!

Wonder if the air gap was a way of trying to reduce drag?

I really do not like the idea of it being there and will check out how TitanKen has solved the issue. It would also cut down on the noise level for the Pups in the truck, my pound pup will be riding back there as well.

Regards,

Yes, yes, I have seen the light!

It's annoying but I've gotten use to it, like others I just nudge the tailgate to the center because I'm fussy about my truck's appearance.
