THings that go bump in the night......(problem)

For about the last month, I am getting this "bump" sound when slowing to a stop. It sounds like a basketball in the truck bed hitting up against the bed wall. I coach hoops and at first, I thought I had left a ball in the bed.

Anyone have this happen? Is it bed flex or something that needs tightened?

If you have the utility bed rails it is the black plastic strips that are moving to the front of the bed when you stop. I have the same "issue" but I use it to try and drive smoother. When I am on the gas and brakes the thump is a reminder to go a little easier. You can reomve the strips or put a screw in them to keep them from moving.

Yeah, strips that cover the bottom bed rails...took awhile to solve that one. Glad this site is around!!

Thanks! Will focus on this!

Did you use screws to stop this or just put up with it. I don't think I want to shoot screws into it.

Along with the tiedowns that came std. for your utility tracks there were 4 "stop blocks" also. I cut about 1 1/2" off my utility rail covers, slid them right up against the front bed wall, and bolted a block at the end of each. Clunk noise gone. Blocks easily removable with the wrench that also was included. Some members here have (instead) used short lengths of plastic or tygon tubing stuck into the end of the track to sort of wedge the cover in place - I don't remember what diameter was best.

I also noticed I have to wrap anything I put in the utility box, behind the drivers rear wheel, in a cloth to keep it from banging around.

I put some rtv silicone sealant inside the end of the rubber strip to stop it from going up against the truck. No more bumps and you don't see anything. The sealant goes near the tailgate.
