i have no problem with that, as long as i don't have to subsidize you through child care credits, mortgage deductions, etc, etc, etc. less taxes all around sounds good to me!

Some people in this world have a death wish and want to make excuses for not taking a second to click on a seat belt..."its uncomfortable","it wont save your life" blah, blah, blah. A roll cage doesn't do you any good if you get ejected from the ****pit. Yes the ideal situation is that accidents won't happen to you, but they might and if you want to set a good example for your kids and family you will take the time to click on the belt. I'm 6'7" and the belt don't bother me.

The great thing about this country is that you have the choice to ultimately click on the belt or not. But the choice for me and anyone that rides in my car will put it on or walk.

I base my decisions on personal experience and accounts from family members in law enforcement and a friend who is an EMT. No one releases the stats on the other side, or cases where seatbelts have failed or cause more injury or death. I know guys that swear Fords are the best vehicles to ever hit the road. I'm sorry I have contrary information, as I do in this case. If you check, the air bags deploy diffently if you do not have your seatbelt on, I'll take that route. I wear a 5 point harness when racing off road, but thats just to keep me in better proximity to the controlls.

I'm done, nothing you can say to change my position, and I will not give up motorcycling. A life lived in fear and clouded by what ifs is not a life worth living.

Hey, you can do what you want - I'm sure your children appreciate your "no fear" attitude in regards to driving. If I have to play Russian roulette, I choose to do it with the one bullet, whereas you seem to want to play with 5 bullets. Good luck...

No, my children don't necessrily appreciate it, They are always on me about speeding(usually 5 to 10 over). Tell ya what. Heart disease and obeseity kills more than not wearing a seatbelt. Lets outlaw fast food, candy, snack foods, alcohol, cigarettes, Soda, anything that puts a persons health in any form of danger. I never smoked, consume maybe a case of beer a year, exercise regularly, cycle, play hockey, I want to die healthy OK. Let me play my odds, damn I seem to be a bullet short, can I borrow one?

There are far worse things in life than getting killed in a accident.

Im not scared of dying. What scares me is the thought of being paralized from the neck down in a coma and knowing that my family will now have the burden for the rest of my life to take care of me. If you wear you seat belt or not is your own choice. Just like it should be. But you need to think about who that choice affects in your life. ................. Im a paramedic in Arkansas. I had a run last year to take a 18 year old girl from one hospital to a rehab hospital. She was involved is a roll over accident . Not having her seat bet on when the car rolled over her head slammed to the roof of the car braking her neck and giving her permanet brain damage. She now is in a veg. state. Everything lost because of a car wreck. I feel bad for the girl but what who i really feel bad for is the parents. You could see on there face the hurt and pain that they were going through. They have no clue that she will never get any more back to their normal daughter that what she was at that point.

I'm a little late to the conversation, but here's my 2 cents.

At the end of the video linked in the original message, the officer/EMT says "3 dead, 4th critical, looks like the guy without the belt did most of the damage"...or something close to that.

The point was that you do more than risk your own life when you refuse to wear a seat belt. Your failure to wear a belt puts everyone in the car at risk. By not wearing a belt, you'll undoubtably bounch around the vehicle, injuring others who did have the sense to wear one. To drivers who refuse to wear one, you are being selfish. It may not save your life, but it could save someone elses.

Just another thought. Although I do wear a seat belt now (got the habit from driving around in a convertible), for years I did not for fear of ending up like two of my friends. They died (in seperate accidents about a year and half apart) because they were wearing seat belts. Seat belts can save lives but the statistic you never hear is how often they take lives. Just this last summer a twelve year girl was the only person an accident with her mom and a brother and sister. It was a "loss of control" type accident and she was the only one without a seat belt. The car rolled and she was thrown clear. Yeah, she was lucky. Does that make the rest of her family just unlucky? My point is it takes more than a seatbelt to save your life.

One major reason for that is it is difficult to always ascertain that not wearing the seatbelt in the same accident would have saved your life - other than something like drowning or burning up in a fire, and even those are hard to guage; just because you weren't belted in wouldn't mean that you were in any kind of shape to leave the vehicle. Same holds true for crushing accidents, rollovers, people tossed out of vehicles, etc. Can anyone honestly say that being tossed clear out of a moving car at 50 or 60mph would have definitely kept you alive? On the other hand, you can look at the impact of many accidents and see the person walk away with bruises that otherwise would have been torn up had they not stayed in place.

I rearended someone who stopped dead short on an on-ramp one time. I was going no faster than 10mph, and the impact was soft enough that there was no damage to either car (not even a scratch). I hit the windshield with my skull and got a serious concussion out of the deal. Had I been wearing a seatbelt I would have had no injury at all.

You and I would agree that being tossed out of a car at that speed is a BAD thing....others on this message board will try to convince you that being tossed out of a car in an accident is a life saver - those same people would probably try to convince you that putting sharp objects in your eye is great for your vision....to each his own.
