Importance of everyone wearing seat belts.

An ex-girlfriend never would & it drove me nuts... Nowadays I don't move unless everyone is clipped in, I wonder if seeing something like this would have changed her mind?

Short video, somewhat graphic although staged.

Sorry, just can't do it. I'll start wearing seatbelts when I stop riding motorcyles, and that won't be anytime soon. My wife does most of the time, and my kids don't have a choice till they are 18. I've tried it, and its like country music, it just bugs the crap out of me.

Some interesting and somewhat related trivia - the Atlanta paper recently did an article about how pickups are exempt from the seatbelt requirement in Georgia. Supposedly it's because the rural potiticians thought seatbelt laws are unfair to farmers who use pickups for their farming duties, which I've never understood. Others have rumored that our Speaker of the House drove a pickup and didn't want to be subjected to the law, so he pushed for the pickup exemption. But now that everyone drives pickups, the legislature is thinking about reversing that part of the law. I think the law should be the same for every type of vehicle, but I'm undecided on whether there should be seatbelt laws. But it is nice knowing I can drive my truck around the corner to the store without putting on my seatbelt without fear of some cop having a bad day looking for someone to pull over. But most times I have mine on anyway.

The only time a seat belt really saves lives is in a frontal impact and a roll over. 90% of side impact that are bad enough to kill you would do so with or with out a seat belt. Ive seen as many dead people with a seat belt as ive seen without. Its just the ones that dont wear them are in pieces

A buddy of mine got me into the habit of wearing one when I was just a teenager, that was back in the 1960's his brother had a 1966 Mustang and wouldn't let him drive or me ride unless we were buckled up. Heck some of the cars back then didn't even have seat belts.
I would feel naked driving without one on now. Besides its the LAW here in Tennessee.

I agree with some of your post, but a huge percentage of the fatalities occur when the occupants are ejected from the vehicle. I've seen it first hand and even tried to roll a car off of one guy that was pinned under it. Not a pretty scene, it still haunts me to this day.

ya you gotta be a plain idiot not to wear a seatbelt in a car

true story, i was driving my friend and his mom to pick a tv up, my friend sat in the front with his seatbelt on and his mom in the back of my kingcab without a seatbelt on, i had to do a moderate emergency brake, about 3/4 down on the pedal quickly, i dont know how but she just flew right to the front onto my gate shifter, im sure if i was going a bit faster and fully slammed my breaks or hit something at speed shed go flying right into my windshield, headfirst, that wouldnt be pretty, mind you she was in the back, anybody in the front would definatley have had there head into the windshield, it doesnt take much force to get you flying out of your seat, when not wearing a seatbelt, please people wear seatbelts, it WILL significantly reduce injury and possible death, even in small stupid situations, my friends mom was lucky

my moms friend also drove around without a seatbelt, in a miata, pregnant, and hit something, she went to the hospital, wasnt pretty, she wasnt going fast either, luckly she survived, if she had worn her belt, the only place shed have to visit would be the body shop

i see some of you think that in some accidents, like being t-boned or w/e, that a belt will not do much good, youd be surprized at the greater chances of survival, wearing a belt vs not, even in a pretty deadly situation, its like driving a motorcycle without a helmet, sure if a car sideswipes you on the freeway helmet or not, your chances of survival are slim, but much greater with the helmet on, be smart guys and girls

I live out in the boonies and drive pedominately at night. Between dodgeing the drunks, deer, and exhausted semi drivers in my lane, I wear my seatbelt so when they find my truck in the ditch or out in a field they don't have to go looking for me. They can just hitch up the truck and take us both to town in one neat convenient package.

Hell, I'm being burried in my Truck anyway.
