Update on Door Handles

Being its cold up here in Minnesota again my door handles got stuck, drivers door would not close and passenger door would not open. Called the dealership and to my surprise he was just going to call me because I had the problem during the last cold snap. They told me they had some Nissan engineers coming tomorrow and want me to bring the truck in today. They will be washing the truck today and leaving out tonight then the engineers will be looking at it in the morn. Ill let you know what happens as soon as I can.

My rear doorhandle stuck open in freezing conditions twice. I pulled the panel and wiggled the cable and it came unstuck. I think if a cable luber is used and some synthetic lube squirted in the cables would solve the problem. Cables are lubed regularly on offroad motorcycles.

Update 2

The dealer called this afternoon and said the engineers have been working on the doors, guess they are replacing some parts but won’t know exactly what they replace till tomorrow. They also found my rear transfer case seal leaking again. I had that replaced about a month ago. They said they think its from the drive shaft so there replacing that also ( Drive Shaft and Seal). I’ll try to get a parts list for the doors when they are done.

Not trying to change the subject but I'm curious about your tranny leak. I just went to pick up truck today with a tranny leak and got down the road and it leaked again. They thought it was the drive shaft seal but then said after it leaked again that they didnt know. They called me 5 hours later and said that it was some bolt leaking and that they had fixed it. I havent picked it up yet. Your the only other person ive seen with this problem. What did they replace on your truck? Mine is a 4x4 also. Did they replace the actual transfer case seal? I know they havent had time to do this on mine. Im concerned they just put silicon around the bolt to stop the leak. Sorry again for the subject change. Thanks in advance for the info!

They replaced the seal on the end of the transfer case were the drive shaft inputs to the case.

Picked up the truck today but did not get a chance to talk to the engineer. They did replace both door lock actuators. Almost 40 deg. Today so I’ll have to wait till we get another cold snap to find out if it fixed the problem. They are aware of the problem because they had the parts with them and also replaced the actuators on a couple of trucks on the dealer lot. They also replaced the rear transfer case seal and drive shaft. I’ll check that again after I put on a few miles.

I have two friends that are nissan mechanics and they had the same problem here in Maine. They showed me the door handle assemblies where they were soaked with water around some foam around the cables. There is water getting in the door panels and freezing the foam around the cable causing it to stick. Hope this helps.
