Trans Temp Gauge Question

Ok, I ordered an Autometer Trans Temp Gauge and have a few questions if anybody can help me. I've installed an aftermarket trans cooler, and need to know the best place to locate the sending unit sensor. Is it better to monitor the hottest temp (from trans), coolest temp (output of trans cooler), or somewhere in between? And are the trans lines 3/8"?

I have the XE Crew Cab and need a good source for the 12V ignition to power the gauge only when the truck is on, and also 12V for the backlight. Is there an unused harness on the XE that is available, or should I go to the fuse box? I plan on punching out a hole where I think the 4x4 switch would be located. The gauge is slightly over 2" and should fit perfectly there. Thanks.

One of the two dash lighter sockets is +12V only with the ignition on. I think it is fused at 15 amps. If your guage is low draw, tapping the hot lead of the lighter socket should work.

On my LE CC that came with the RF stereo, I think there was a separate fuse in the interior passenger side fuse box for the sub woofer. If you have XE w/o RF maybe you have an unused spot in the fuse box for a sub?

Yeah the right passenger socket is only on when the ignition is on, but I want a cleaner look.

You can tap the hot lead of the passenger side socket behind the dash cover. You pull the dash cover (over the radio) off. Then splice into the hot wire for the socket behind the dash cover. It will be completely hidden when you put the cover back on. I power 3 amp heated wiper blades in this manner.

If you have an unused spot in the fuse box, it might be easier to go that way.

(waiting for warmer weather to install mine) I'm going to install mine so I know the Trans temp not the cooled temp.

Thanks, I'll do that if I can't find an unused spot.
