9 MPG can't be right though. Unless you drive up a 45 degree hill in 4WD and snow...each way..every day, 45 miles a day. something's not right.
I do believe that mileages vary but I'm wondering if it's also peoples methods of getting these mileage numbers. I've never seen so many huge variations in mileages in my life. And I used to belong to the TUNFS forum when I had my 02 supercharged Fronty with all those mods going on...still not as big a difference between MPG. Somethings gone awry!

Maybe there are more people with the fuel guage problem that don't even know it! We can't all be THAT far off from each other in mileage.

Fill the tank and reset the trip meter.
Drive until your down to a half or 3/4 of a tank and fill it up.
Take the mileage from the trip meter and divide that number by the number of gallons it took to fill the truck and that is your MPG.(don't forget to reset the trip meter for the next fillup)

Mileage divided by gallons = MPG

500 miles -14 miles to a gallon = 35.7 gallons

A savings of 6 gallons.

Then multiply that savings by 4 and at the end of the month you've saved 24 gallons, or 1 tankful, or $48 at $2.00 a gallon.

So you can imagine my pleasure at getting 17 mpg since I drive over 600 miles a week.

So I fully understand the Bltching about 12 mpg or less.
Totally right!!! I'm only getting 10-10.76 mpg 14mpg would make a big difference. I think I'll give it a try, can't hurt anything.

I'm trying to remeber correctly..
I think the EPA is the one who set's the gas milage numbers on the window sticker.
It's somthing like. weight X wheelbase X displacment X blah X blah diveded by Blah. after they field test vehicles and take the average of that model (4x4, 2x4 kc, cc reg doesn't matter) = blah
So i can only assume the manufactur sends out properly tuned vehicles for the test vs vehicles straight off the mass produced floor..
Did I just sound like a dumbass or what?? blah

Squid also don't forget when filling to use the same procedure...ie: fill to the same fullness. I can put an extra GALLON of fuel in mine with NO overflow after the pump clicks off on it's own!!

I am willing to give it a shot. Since there is a diffenece in reflashing and resetting what should I ask for once I talk to the service manager? Should I ask for a specific settings? What is the cost?

I was thinking of trading my Titan in for a Pathfinder to find out they too get horrible mileage (around 11-15 city / 15-18 highway mpg when Nissan listed at 17 city /23 highway) got this info on another Nissan forum.

A heavier vehicle can be affected a lot by how hard you drive. If you use the power a lot you will have much poorer fuel economy. If you want the best fuel economy you have to drive easy.

Mileage divided by gallons = MPG

Right. However you have to do this over a few tankfuls and get an average. While filling, unless you keep strict tabs on EXACTLY how much fuel you put in EACH time, it won't be accurate. You have to know exactly how much fuel was in the tank and make sure you fill it with that exact same amout before your numbers will be dead on. Using the auto-stop on the pump isn't accurate.
For instance....If you refill with 20 gallons, and divide your number of miles driven by 20, you won't nessecarily be accurate because you're not sure you've burned that same 20 gallons. And 1 gallon or even 1/2 gallon either way will make a huge difference. One tankful isn't accurate enough.

I've got nav in my CC which gives me a Avg. MPG reading and a real time MPG reading. I only have 350 miles on the truck but so far I'm averaging 13.4 which I expect will improve with a little more breakin. I drive it pretty easy and with the real time reading it's a challenge to keep the MPG as high as possible.

Great for you Squid. But for the rest of us that are getting poor mileage even when driving "normally" need some help. So be helpful what would I ask a service manager to do? If I go in and say I am getting bad mileage he will give me the same old....well others are getting sticker...maybe it is your driving. I know this not to be true so I would like to go in with something else other than ... "well I read in the TitanTalk forum"...

Anyone... Jet?

My Nav inflates my fuel economy by 1 to 1.5 mpg.......

Yes one tank won't do it. And it's not going to be an exact science. I always stand by the truck and listen to the sound as I'm filling. As the sound changes I decrease the flow rate until it shuts off and I do this every time. (hate to spill gas down the side of the truck.)(Hurts the gas mileage)

I know everyone has heard this already but with a 60/40 split of Highway/city driving I'm getting a consistant 17 mpg or more. This tells me that if I did a straight highway run my truck would get well over 18 mpg on the highway.(70 MPH)

Trust me I was really close to trading it in, and kinda still considering doing it. I only use 87. During my test after reflashing I filled up once with premium just for the fun of it, and I had the money to waste then (taxes ).

Help me understand ,you have a truck that does 0-60 at 7.2 seconds and you are b$tching because of 15.5 MPG on the highway and 12.5 stop and go?
You can't have your cake and eat it too! It seems that Nissan under estimated the power of this truck, and it seems to me that they also under estimated MPG. Thats life ,if you want to wine, and complain, sell your truck and buy a Hybrid!! The rest of us Titan die hards will be looking to smoke you and every other winer everytime we hit a red light!!!
