Looking for any reports on increased/decreased mileage figures from doing this?? I'm getting a consistant 12 all around driving...8K miles on an 04'KC/BT/4*4...haven't tried anything yet...burning 87octane fuel.
I've done the reset but only after I installed my exhaust so I wouldn't be able to attribute any mpg changes to it. You might as well try it. Just leave your battery unhooked overnight and then give it a few hundred miles to adjust. You've nothing to lose except your radio memory settings.

Resetting the ECU and having it flashed are two totally different things. One just resets the ECU, the other changes the parameters set in the ECU. The latter probably being the only way gas mileage is going to change.
What is the reason people are having their ECUs reflashed anyhow?
supposedly people are getting them reflashed to improve upon the PATHETIC mileage of these trucks. I really don't enjoy complaining like i've been doing about the mileage, but I truly didn't expect it. I saw the 14/18 sticker on the truck, and figured that since it's a Nissan it would be close to that. I'm consistantly getting 12. NOT acceptable and a big enough deal to ME that I will unload the truck soon if something doesn't change. My last truck was a 2000 Silverado 5.3 Z71 that consistantly got 16/17...didn't matter how you drove it. And anyone who thinks 5mpg difference doesn't add up is nuts!!
What exactly is a reflash? Is it anything like chipping or reprograming the ECU? I read people are doing this but I cant find anything that tells you what it is. Is it an actual procedure or is it just disconecting the battery like someone posted?

Don't complain because I was getting a consistent 9mpg with my LE CC 4X4. I just had the dealer re-flashed my computer about 2 wks ago., and have recently completed two long distance trips which yielded 15.5 MPG highway, and 12.5 stop and go to include my 1.5 mile to work 7 days a week. Trust me I was really close to trading it in, and kinda still considering doing it. I only use 87. During my test after reflashing I filled up once with premium just for the fun of it, and I had the money to waste then (taxes ).

You take it to your local Nissan dealership and they hook it up to the Consult II machine to rewrite over the programming on your truck's computer (think: re-installing windows).

So you would rather take a couple grand hit in resale to get into a better fuel economy car? Does that only sound backwards to me? That couple grand will buy a lot of gas...

That's exactly why I haven't done it yet, considering I've only had it since Aug, I would cut a big loss. However that justificatio is for the individual to evaluate. Not because the loss outways the gain, is a dead deal. Sometimes it's the principle involved.
I still find it hysterical that people are *****ing about mileage in this powerful behemoth. There are no TSBs that I've found telling the dealer to reflash the ECUs but, if others have had it done, and its' worked, why not have it done?
The difference between 12 MPG and 14 MPG is enough to take a huge hit on selling the truck or trading it? I don't get it.
If an overwhelming majority of vehicle owners are consistently getting lower gas milage than the manufacturers' stated, advertised numbers, then wouldn't such an inconsistency would be grounds for legal misrepresentation on Nissan's part?
One would be a fool to expect a vehicle as large and heavy as the Titan, with that powerful engine, to get gas mileage much better than, say, 10% above Nissan's stated numbers.
But if I'm in the market for a new truck (which I am), and I hear about owners consistently getting gas milage that's well BELOW Nissan's stated numbers with unmodified, stock vehicles being driven with normal payload in good conditions, it would make me wary of buying the vehicle in the first place.
Surely there are some anamolies where certain vehicles simply are getting a little bit better (or a little bit worse) gas milage, though.
Unfortunately, flashing the computer is likely to not have the same performance benefit as cleaning up your computer's hard drive or reinstalling the operating system. If only it were that easy!

There are some that use their trucks as work trucks and not commuters, who as I do rack up over 500 miles a week. A 2 mile to a gallon savings is significant.
500 miles -12 miles to a gallon = 41.6 gallons
500 miles -14 miles to a gallon = 35.7 gallons
A savings of 6 gallons.
Then multiply that savings by 4 and at the end of the month you've saved 24 gallons, or 1 tankful, or $48 at $2.00 a gallon.
So you can imagine my pleasure at getting 17 mpg since I drive over 600 miles a week.
So I fully understand the Bltching about 12 mpg or less.

Sounds like reflashing the ECU worked pretty well for you. I am glad to hear that. I've been getting ~9 mpg combined, and that's driving very easily. I think its one of the worse around!
If I reflash the ECU and get 12-15 I'll be jumpin' round in circles!!!
I'll be making an appt at the Nissan dealer on my next day off.
Wish me luck.
