Vinly Dye, thoughts?

Has anyone thought of using vinyl dye to paint some trims? Couldn't it be cheaper using those instead of buying the trim pieces that glue on?

What are your thoughts and suggestions on this. I'm currently in my spray painting craze and i'm just changing the color on everything plastic and just trying to get experienced before I change the color on my laptop, mice, etc.

Here are some links on how they attempted with theirs.

I used to run a car audio electronics shop out of a store that did custom auto work. The "dye" is really paint, and it depends on what you're painting. Things that don't get much touching do OK, stuff that gets touched all the time doesn't hold up well at all.

I wouldn't try it on things like glovebox door, radio bezel, etc, but on things like seat belt bolt covers, dash vents, etc, it seems to do OK

Would you be able to do several coats of paint and a gloss to protect it even more? More coats the better?
