Titan not going to the NASCAR Truck Series

Reading Jayski this morning there was a link from the Orlando Sentinel regarding Ford's 2006 Cup car (a joke) and Honda and the Truck Series.

Here's what was said about the Titan:

And Nissan -- as long as CEO Carlos Ghosn, king of the depression mentality is in charge -- has no interest in anything that doesn't immediately translate into profit.

You can find it on the main Cup page or in the articles/stories for 2-25.

It would take a lot for nissan to compete. They would have to buy their engines like Toyota did in the begining. Toyota learned that a pushrod V8 is what is needed to keep HP and reliability high. A dohc engine just would not do. Nissan would either have to buy forever or come up with a push rod engine.

Doesn't the Craftsman Truck series pretty much only complete with "regular cab" trucks and the same engines anyway? I used to really enjoy watching the truck series, but lately I'm never home to catch it. Also falchulk brought up a good point about the engines. I don't need to see my brand of truck to really enjoy having one.

I'm pretty sure it's NASCAR rules that mandate the pushrod V-8, not a reliability or power issue.

I enjoy the racing, but all the NASCAR type machines are so far from what we buy that any brand loyality is just silly, really.

Ditto on the NASCAR regs. Pushrod only. So, Nissan would have to use low tech to compete and I don't see how that would really further its technology driven image. Now if we ever get NASCAR to change its rules . . . .

Actually what I would like to see is Craftsman Series and Nextel run in the same race. That would be exciting.

Show me where Nascar truck series mandates pushrods. Not to mention push rod is NOT low tech. They have a smaller size for equivilant displacement compared to Over head cam engines. They also weigh considerably less.

Not to mention this truck is just a little over a year old. Patience Grasshopper.

Lets remember that racing is about money. Sponsers, Fans, Brand Loyalty. How many people would really be cheering for a Titan if it was in the truck series this year? Us.

NASCAR rules also still stipulate a carburetor. It's been almost 20 years since the last carbureted car rolled off the assembly line in this country...

(Don't get me wrong - I still like my old Holley 600 because I can work on it!)

I'm pretty sure it's pushrod engines only. They have to have one type of engine so the can regulate them. Nissan will be there some day!

If you sponser it, promote it, and have a popular driver they will come, why do you think Darrel Waltrip was picked for Toyota, certainly not his driving abilty today. And Toyota won in their first year!

And how many years has Toyota had their full size truck?

What's that got to do with it? Nissan has been making the full size Patrol oversea's for years. Just as stated Toyota developed there pushrod engine something Nissan capable of doing easily if the want to.
