New, redesigned rotors? Maybe!

I had an appointment to take my Titan in on Friday morning for my third brake fix. My service guy called and said they had gotten word from Nissan that the new redesigned rotors are ready and they were delaying me until the new rotors arrived. They said it would be within the next week. He did not know if more parts were included but when he went to check the availabilty of rotors for my work on Friday, something on his computer said to hold until new redesigned rotors arrive. Anyone else scheduled for replacement? Maybe we see if this is being done for all or just selected cases.

I would confirm they just didnt run out of replacement parts from the TSB, since new rotors alone wont cure the brake judder..

Like I said earlier, the service guy did not know if other parts, ie. pads, calipers ect. , was included. He also made the statment that if my truck was shuddering bad and I did not want to wait, they would do the fix anyway. These guys have never lied before, but we will see. Maybe it has to do with this being my third fix, I don't care. Just fix this judder bug.

It may be a week or so before they call. I will post as soon as I know what the total fix is. I visited your city last week to check on a new project we are having built there. We were there for a couple of days and visited the casinos a couple of times. The biggest casino, I can not remember the name, had a buffet and we went to try the food. Wrong! The only thing worth eating was the deserts. We tried a few other of your restaurants and the food was great. I have to go back in a couple of weeks for final inspection of the unit.

Tall Texan.. Let us know what you find out on this. My new 05 has the same brakes as are on my 04 and the 05 was built in Jan.

So I may need these new brakes as well.

Thanks Deep.

That was me. The service manager showed me a sheet which showed new brake assemblys. It had part numbers and pictures. He would not let me look at it but waved it in my face to let me know a fix was in the making. At that time, he told me it included the entire system, calipers, pads and rotors. This was not a TSB but rather some type of a heads up that goes out to service managers, I think. I have been in his office when he called a Nissan engineer and talked about our differentials and the question I was asking about the viscosity of oil in the diffies. I think sometimes these engineers may slip a copy to some of these guys about future fixes. So we wait and see.

I've put about 1k miles on the new "redesigned" system, and it's rocking along just fine. Better braking than ever, with easily 70% less dust as well.

Hang in there guys, the parts will be out any day.

which redesign are you referring to? the "new" one that is not officially released yet? if so, what did they do?

If you have the redesigned brake system parts then post the numbers here.

I know I'm just a newbie here, but I find it difficult to believe that Nissan is going to increase the rotor diameter on a possible brake recall. They might increase the rotor thickness and internal cooling vanes, but make them bigger? I think this is highly unlikely. I hope I'm proven wrong in April though. I think this so-called "final fix" will apply only to those who've had the numerous TSB's performed.

In fact, I find it hard to believe that they're going to offer even a recall on the front brakes. Think about the huge warranty cost. This would be every '04 and '05 Nissan Titan, Armada, and Infiniti QX56. That's ALOT of brakes and a BIG expenditure for Nissan.

I really don't see the recall happening. They may only offer this so-called "bigger" rotor and "revised" caliper only to those who've had all the numerous brake TSB's performed. The rest who had zero problems with their brakes will probably be forced to comply with the existing TSB's until they're finally "eligible" for the final fix.

Don't get me wrong, I hope I'm proven totally wrong on this. I'm just trying to think about this whole brake "judder" issue from a Nissan corporate "bean-counter" perspective that's all.
