I just had my 05 Titan in last week for it's first break judder problem. My service manager told me that they had sent out a "permanent fix" months ago that turned out not to work so they are doing a new "permanent fix" that should be out in mid June. So I think alot of the people who thought they had the permanent fix only have that first attempt at a fix.
They had an extra kit (new pads and torque members) from the first fix that they put on my truck while they wait for the final fix and they turned the rotors. Of course I wouldn't be suprised if the Service Manager was just blowing smoke up my a**. It wouldn't be the first time.
Mine included new calipers.... I am guessing they are a different design from the originals just because otherwise, why would they have given me new ones? But I am just speculating....
Perhaps because the juddering eroded or cracked the piston faces in your original calipers. I don't think dealers rebuild calipers. But maybe they do have a new caliper design. Inquiring minds want to know. . . .
If you put a thicker rotor on you are going to need a wider caliper to make it all work, unless you use a thinner brake pad. Somebody who had the "final" fix needs to post the parts list.
The new rotor is not thicker, the material on the inner and outer solid portions are thicker and the vanes are thinner. The rotor fits the existing calipers.
Pictures were posted several days ago showing the difference.
Perhaps because the juddering eroded or cracked the piston faces
Unlikely in my case.... I barely had any noticeable 'judder' at all.... I had just started to feel it and since I was in for an oil change I figured I would start jumping through the hoops en route to the 'real fix' so I just thought they were going to re-surface the existing rotors....
It seems the only thing that is certain is that we are all getting different information from our dealers and nissan.... that most likely means they are still scrambling for the real fix.... I hope my new stuff works but I won't be too surprised if it doens't... oh well, more free brakes
Like I stated earlier, I don't think nissan has a solution to this problem yet but it seems they are working on it. Now I feel that what is happening with people getting new parts and such when they go in for the fix that is not the real "final fix" is simple; the dealers are getting rid of their parts stockpile to make room for the new ones coming in and this way the dealers are still getting payed for work that they are doing with the old parts. They can charge nissan more for replacing the old parts rather than just resurfacing the old rotors. And when the "final fix" is ready they can charge Nissan again for doing work on the same truck. Remember the service department charges Nissan Corp for the work that they do, so the more work they do the more they can charge Nissan.

nope. not anymore. nissan is NOT doing the "come in and we'll turn your rotors twice or 3 times" deal. They will give you the new rotors WITHOUT even turning them once....
Pardon me? I'm just relating what he said Nissan has told his dealership. He's been pretty good and honest with me so I tend to believe him. Maybe your dealer is different.

You know somebody asked me how I liked my titan today....Normally I say I love it, but since my truck shakes its *** off when I brake, and Nissan is doing a lousy job in my opinion of dealing with it I had to think about it.....I can honestly say that Nissan is doing a hell of a job screwing up a good thing....the word of mouth on this will definettly hurt sales..... I can honestly say I hate my truck....and the dealer for trying to pawn off some BS fix on me, and then taking a month+++ to get the parts. I am curious, with all the severe shaking I have what other damage could result.....my truck shakes severely on every stop...
This is a pretty interesting debate..... I find it really weird that there is such a vast difference of experiences between dealerships. Everyone's theory seems to be pretty much justified. Does anyone around this site have any contacts within the Nissan Corp? This seems like a large group of owners and you would think someone there might find this thread interesting. They may even be able to shed some light as to just why there is such a difference is treatment/helpfullness/parts/etc. between dealers.
My dealership informed me that June 18th is the expected delivery date for the new and improved brake pads and rotors. They just turned my rotors and replaced the pins and pads with the old style pads and pins. The service manager said to come back after 18th if the rotors start vibrating again. He, also, said this fix may work or it may not. Now that I changed the brake pads, I have started the 36 month warranty process on the brakes.
I, also, had the driver seat cushion replaced a week ago, and the new one has already started fraying. the service manager said to keep a watch on it and when I came back for the new brakes, and the cushion is worse, he would order another seat cushion cover.

-Called the Nissan dealer after seing this thread and the Word doc. that is attached. Service person said this is the first they've heard of this 'bulletin' so I emailed it to her. She was pissed that customers are seeing this stuff and they aren't, so she confirms all of the info listed on the bulletin with district people, etc..
-I call after about 3 days(since they didn't call me like i was told) to follow up and she says yes, all the info is legit(as if I typed the sh!t up myself). Says to bring it in and what they will do initially is turn rotors, put on new pads and torque members, then go from there and see if that helps.
-I take it in next morning. Get a call about 2 hours later. She says, bad news the rotors are really warped and are too thin to turn, they need the new replacements. Says rotors could take a week to get in. I say fine, just give me a rental, so i get on '04 F150(not a bad truck but i'm so glad I got the Titan instead).
-Get a call later that day and she says after talking to the district Nissan folks, they are going to expedite the new rotors to them. Should be in next morning(which is today June 3).
-Get a call about noon today, June 3 and truck is ready. Brakes feel really awesome, nice and tight, unlike before.
I've attached the service reciept for you guys to see what they replaced. Feel free to print it and take it to your dealer if you'd like.

The brakes in the truck are made by Bosch, Don't think for a minute that they aren't paying Nissan back for all the expenses involved.

I was at my dealer this morning inquiring about my brakes. They showed me an internal document and said that a mass release of parts is set for June 9th. One other thing is they said the back brakes will be replaced as well. I see by your invoice they didn't touch yours.

I hear that they are only going to replace rear pads...NOT rotors. Can anyone confirm this?

There was a tsb posted by someone that showed the instructions for the tech to follow and rear pads were listed as one item. Now all we need to do is search the posts for this page. I went to Nissans site and saw something, I'll revisit and link it if it has what we're looking for.

TxTitan....like Clint pointed out, it looks like they didn't give you the full fix. They should have turned the rear rotors and replaced the rear pads. I confirmed this with my dealer when I was there last.
A lady in the service dep't called me last week to tell me my brake kit and replacement mud flaps were in (3 wks ahead of sched), so we set up an appt for earlier this week on Tues to git-r-done. After waiting half hour in the waiting rm, the advisor tells me that none of the parts were in yet, and whoever called me about the parts, was mis-informed. Ugggh....I was pissed! So, still waiting...
