I have had judder problems with my truck, but since I put 20" rims on the truck, I didn't want to fight with the dealer about voiding the warranty due to added weight. So I purchased the Stillen big brake kit. I installed it myself and found a couple of things that I didn't like about the stock brakes.

1. The service manual says to torque the caliper torque member bolts to 155 ft-lbs. When I removed the stock calipers, I broke a high strength steel impact socket. I ended up having to use a 18" breaker bar to get the bolts off. I had to use the breaker bar to the entire bolt out, not just to break the seal. I think the bolts were just a bit tighter than 155 ft-lbs.
2. The wear on the rotor was very uneven. The inside of the rotors were twice as used as the outside of the rotors. Which makes me think that the slider doesn't work as designed, or the caliper bridge is very weak.

I am looking to buy an 05 SE CC 4x4 maybe this week. Does anyone know if at a certain point this year any new 05's came off the line with the permanent fix on them? I was hoping to avoid the multiple dealer trips.

Here's a quote from a member at another site; this guy is a service advisor for a Nissan dealership...fwiw. I had heard previously that all 05's with build dates after 3/05 had the new brake kits, but may not be so according to this guy.

"I just heard some news I think everyone will be interested in..My manager has told me (he just had a big meeting with Nissan "big wigs") Nissan believes 95+ % of the brake problems are the pads..not rotors on titans and armadas...So they are going to start just replacing pads soon and save rotors for customers with the problem that has been more on going..But the biggest news is....New titans being produced still have the old parts on them..Nissan is saving all the new parts for customers that have purchased the truck already..So, trucks being made as we speak on the assembly line are getting old parts!! They didnt tell him when the switch would be made..I know I have posted that I heard april they were putting new stuff on but I was wrong..So, heres the updated story so far.."

I had the same problem when I changed to the Stoptech kit. Did you compare the new bolt with the old one, my threds were stretched, not good. But I have gone 6k without a single brake problem.

Hard to be confident about double hearsay (the manager said the Nissan guy said) like this. Plus, it makes no sense - why deliberately have even more trucks out there that will eventually need a fix if all you need to do is install different pads?? I've had dealers say the exact opposite.

The Stillen kit uses the OEM caliper bolts. The bolts looked fine, other than the 7 pounds of thread lock on them.

You are talking about the 21 mm bolts? Yeah, I had to eat my wheaties to get those out also. Nissan uses copious quantities of thread lock from hell.

I don't disagree with you....just passing on info. Just goes to show ya that no one really knows what the real story is when it comes to this brake issue...even service advisors, who should be privy to the 'inside scoop'.
I do, however, have quite a bit of respect for the guy who I quoted from over at Clubtitan. He is a frequent poster, and is always helpful with info regarding our trucks.

I think these newer pads he's talking about have a higher copper content and should help, but I can't see it curing the judder issue....only a rotor with more mass, or some other way of keeping the rotor cooler; i.e, drilled/slotted, will cure the problem long term.

Called dealer today to find out where the hek my new brake kit and mud flaps are that should've been in a couple weeks ago, and low and behold...he tells me "they just showed up today".....curious timing, but you didn't hear me complaining. I'm getting the work done this Friday, so the waiting's finally almost over. Never been so excited about a freakin' brake job in my life...lol!

I too had all that excitement for a brake job. I had them done yesterday and OH BOY, it was worth the wait. I don't dread pressing the brake pedal anymore. The pedal height is slightly higher and the mushiness is gone too.
They replaced the front rotors, the brackets the calipers hang from, the front pads and rear pads. They said on the receipt that they cut the rear rotors but by looking through the wheel it was obvious they didn't. They were not warped anyway. I'm just hoping all the shaking didn't affect anything else in the front linkage. My truck is now PERFECT again.
For the record, my truck has had ZERO issues other than this since I bought it on 2/1/05 and I knew this was going to happen before I bought it.

If you want free new brakes listen to this. All you have to do is tell your service MANAGER you want to do a Nissan buy back on your Titan.. BY law If they cant cough up new parts to fix the problem they have to buy your truck back and replace it with a comporable model. This will get your free new brakes

Took mine in after judder started at 11,000.
Replaced pads and resurfaced rotors.
Full fix next time I was told.
It'll buy me another 11,000 miles until the real fix.

Mine were so bad 2000 miles after the first fix I didn't want to even drive it.
