Did everyone here who had the latest fix (the whole new front kit and rear pads) also receive the letter of extended warranty on the new brake? I've got mine fix but no letters or anything that indicates the extended warranty. Was I supposed to get one?

Sorry if it's been covered but I couldn't read through 20 pages.

Thanks

I just bought my '05 Titan a couple of weeks ago and have about 1200 miles on it. I haven't had any brake problems yet but am a little concerned since my truck was born on 01/05 and I have alot of brake dust. Should I be concerned? What is the best way if any to bring this up to the dealer and actually have them do something?

I think you will feel the judder soon. Mine was built in 5/05 and the judder started at 1500 miles, lots of dust too. I am on the list for the upgrade at my local dealer. At 5200 miles it really shakes now. I hope they get the parts soon.

Mine started about 500 miles ago (at around 3500) and it's just getting worse. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow.

I just measured the thickness of my rotors, and it looks like I have the new ones. My truck has a build date of 5-05. I still get the brake dust like crazy though. I guess I will have to wait and find out.

With the perm you have no brake dust.
Rotors are not wider, just thicker metal to the insides.

I measured with a micrometer and I do appear to have the thicker rotors, but maybe not the pads? They both measured the .375 in like the photo somebody put up in this thread on page 11. So it appears mine are the newer ones, but with the old brake dust making pads I guess. I will have to wait and see

I have the brake fix, with new pads on front and rear, but I did not get a letter of warranty, as a matter of fact, the service manager said that the warranty would expire 3 years from the date I bought the truck, not from when they replaced the brakes. I don't know if that is correct or not.

Thanks for your reply. I've been asking from other threads too and no one has yet got the letter with the fix. I guess the letters weren't meant to be sent out to customers.

The Service Manager sent me an e-mail 8/05. Here's the text
"Nissan has extended the warranty on your 2004 TITAN for "Brake Judder"
(pulsation) concerns up to 36 months and unlimited miles from in-service date. Nissan has designed new parts to effectively repair this condition.

Please call our Service Department at if you are experiencing
this condition or you do not have upgraded components on your vehicle.

Thank you,"

I do not have the "brake judder" yet at 9K. Towed my TT for 7K miles, extra stress and heat on brake system, although the TT has brakes. Also, when I bought my 04 Titan new the Stealer had put chrome/alum factory 18" rims/tires on my XE, they wanted $1800 more, but I said noway and got them. So maybe the alum rims "cool" the rotors better and prevent warping???? haven't seen any survey on this or if it means anything.

Spoke with Nissan Customer Service

Over the past year I went through the whole brake nightmare 5 times. On the 5th time (end of August) they installed the latest brake fix. In August I had considered using the Texas Lemon Law, so I sent a certified letter to Nissan about my complaints. Today I received a call from them about the brakes. They told me this should be the last fix and I should not see any more problems. They also told me about the warranty extension on the brakes. She also mentioned that the 2005 models have the same brakes as my 2004.

I guess I will see how these new rotors work out.

Over at ClubTitan, jerseyparts posted that the latest brake judder NTB is 04-066e. The one at nissanhelp.com is the "c" version. I don't know what the difference is.
Had my brakes done Monday. Somersworth Nissan here in NH did a fine job. Although I was just begining to feel the steering wheel vibes, and never had an interim fix done, they agreed to do my brakes with no hassle at all. All I had to do was ask.
Over the past couple days I've driven a variety of roads and speeds - the new brakes are smooth and strong. Just checked all 24 lugs - only one was a little "light" at breakaway with my wrench set for 96 lb-ft. The rest were right on.
I asked them to bleed the system (not mentioned in the bulletin). Told 'em I'd pay but they did it for free. Dust appears to be very light so far.
They did the job correctly and very neatly. Hope Nissan sends me a survey.

How to tell if I have the new brakes?

I have a CC/LE that was manufactured 6/05 - how do I tell if I have the new brake fix? My sales manager said I do, but I don't trust that slime. I'd like to be able to figure it out so I can direct my incompetent service department to replace them if not. I haven't had any problems (1500 miles) except for some lovely brake dust.

Thanks,
Rob

It's easy -- when you hit the brakes and it feels like the steering wheel is about to shake out of your hands, you DON'T have the fix installed ;-)

My appointment is Wednesday. I called the dealership this morning and he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about as soon as I said "I have a Titan with a brake problem."

Rob, based on your date, you should have the latest front rotors. According to posts here and at ClubTitan, the Canton factory started installing new rotors in mid-May.
The new front rotor has a 3/8" concave depression around where the braking surface joins the tophat (or hub) of the rotor casting. You can see it and feel it with a finger tip. Compare this with how the brake surface joins the tophat on the rear rotors - square cross-section on these.
Then there's the thickness of the braking surfaces, compensated for by a thinner vented or webbed area between them. There's an excellent photo of new and old side-by-side posted here, if you'd do a search on "front rotors". The new rotor's braking surfaces are thicker (375 mm) than the old (290 mm) if I remember the numbers correctly. If you have a micrometer, or even a decent metric ruler and want to take a wheel off, this'll probably give you the most definitive evidence.
Contrary to some posts, the new front rotors are the same overall size as the old. The big difference is the thicker braking surfaces. It's possible the cast iron might be a different blend, too. I've seen no hard info on this - just speculation.
I don't know to tell which version of pads you have. Those of us who've had the "final fix" (NTB 04-066c or later) report little if any dust on the wheels. My fix was just 2 weeks ago, so I can't really say for a while yet. You'd think the factory'd use the same pads the dealers do.
Hope this helps.
