Question Re: Brake Recall Info

I am a new owner of an 06' and I was wondering if anybody knows if the extended warranty on the brakes applies to the 06's as well? I know that they have the new Bosch brakes etc. but I was curious if Nissan chose to continue the extended warranty until further notice. I know it's probably wishful thinking but I thought it may be a way for Nissan to re-establish the customer confidence.

Re: Brake Recall Info

Just took mine in today. They tried to give me the run around first, but after giving them details that I obtained from this site all is good. I should pick it up this afternoon. I'll let you know.

Re: Brake Recall Info

Developed shudder at 3k grrr.

Just called service to schedule. Dude was like "no problem, bring it in and we'll do the permanent fix..it should take an hour, maybe two"

I'm wondering if I should just get big brakes, for future towing? Are the fixed oem's good enough for max towing?

I think they would be fine. Besides, if you are towing a lot the trailer should have it's own brakes correct?

Re: Brake Recall Info

Note: normally I wouldn't double post this question(also in general discussion), but I just don't trust the work done today at the dealer

Grrr I just got back from the dealer and the supposed "permanent fix". I'm paranoid about this. They say that I have the new improved rotors already, and that I just needed new pads/bracket and resurfacing. That sounds like the temp fix to me!?

Maybe you guys can help me confirm if I DO have the new, improved rotors already.

I've compared the new rotor pix in this thread, and it looks like I have the new rotors, but my truck was built in May '05, when they were supposedly still using the old rotors. Dealer just shrugged when I asked about that. I developed the shudder at 3k, and don't understand why I would get it, if I already had the new rotors!?!?

Here are the pix of my rotors and the supposed final fix writeup from today(the part #'s show they replaced all important parts, but the new rotors)

Re: Brake Recall Info

My dealer's Service Manager tried to pull that with me. I asked another service guy about having the new rotors. Supposedly nobody has them. They should be replaced. Now, I don't know how accurate he is but the fix works great. My front rotors look much thicker than the ones in the back. I would use that for comparison.

Re: Brake Recall Info

I get my truck back today.... I wanted to test the service dept though, so I didnt tell them about wanting the new parts or not.... I kind of want to see which fix they did on their own.

Truck has to go back on Monday for body work (acid leak from battery and bedliner repair), so I can question them then if they didnt do the final fix.

Wow! Who turned your rotors? A 3 year old? I've never seen a worse job in all my years of being a mechanic. What you see there are marks from the bits on the lathe. When the rotor is being turned it's supposed to have a anti-vibration clamp on it to keep the bits from skipping on the rotor. They either had dull bits, no anti-vibration clamp or both. It causes noise and possibly premature pad wear.

Re: Brake Recall Info

Well got my baby back, and they gave me the proper fix.... brakes feel tighter now too! Also ordered me a new blower fan for my air conditioning as it was making clicking noises.

on the down side, they said they lubed the dash trim that was squeeking, but it still squeeks. they said they couldnt reproduce my squeeking seat, but that was easy enough for me to reproduce, though they didnt test drive the truck. I dropped it off with 7900 miles, it came back with 7901. But seeing how everyone has the squeeks and its a real crap shoot getting them fixed, i'll just live with it for now, and figure it out later.

another thing they didnt fix were the freezing door handles, as it was close to 45 degrees outside, so they couldnt reproduce that either. However they did lube everything up as a precaution... nice that they did that, however i know it will not help based on other member's experiences. Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait for nissan to make an official statement.

Now back in on monday for body work..... that scares me to most, got to find out details on the body shop and pay them a visit this weekend.

I don't see why you would have gotten a letter TELLING you to take your truck in for brake judder. This is not a recall. It is a Technical Service Bulletin. They do not send out letters for TSBs. (That I know of). Plus if you had a brake judder issue you would know.
