Does the Titan use a knock sensor?

Just curious, as this will change what kind of fuel I buy.

Does the Titan use a knock sensor as a factor in timing control?

Yes, the titan has a knock sensor. Almost all vehicles have a knock sensor.

Yes, there are two sensors--one per bank. I believe it's main purpose is to retard the timing to protect from detonation. But I've heard some modern ecu's will use the sensors to allow the motor to take advantage of higher octane gas as well. Not sure on the Titan, but I know mine does run better on premium, so it would appear that the timing is slightly advanced over using reg unleaded. I'm not sure how else the ecu would know the difference w/o sensing some knock first, but I'm no expert...that I do know!

This is what the service manual has to say about the knock sensors.

The knock sensor retard system is designed only for emergencies. The basic ignition timing is programmed within the anti-knocking zone, if recommended fuel is used under dry conditions. The retard system does not operate under normal driving conditions. If engine knocking occurs, the knock sensor monitors the condition. The signal is transmitted to the ECM. The ECM retards the ignition timing to eliminate the knocking condition.
