Well for what it is worth I decided to write to Nissan Consumer Affairs.
I will also call tomorrow and try to speak to someone, and then I may also send that someone the same letter. I sent this to the general address sort of to see who might end up with it and to see if I get a reply.

TITAN PRODUCTION PROBLEM

The reason I write is because my local dealer in Rochester, NY, is telling me something so crazy I’m having a hard time believing it, and I want a reply directly from Nissan explaining the situation to me. I have been patiently waiting until I got my tax return to order a 2005 Nissan Titan SE 4x4 KC with several options. Now that I have my return, I’m being told Nissan will not accept my build order.
The truck I want is not only described as buildable in your literature, but I can even configure it the way I want it on the website. It seems to me that Nissan is advertising something that they are not selling, and as someone who works in the advertising business, I know this is not fair.
The truck I’m trying to order is configured as shown below. I have even printed out the completed build from the website to further explain what it is I want to buy.
2005 Nissan Titan King Cab SE
Red Alert exterior with Graphite/Titanium interior
4x4 Drivetrain
Popular Package with Captain’s chairs
Utility Bed
Big Tow
Can you please explain to me why Nissan cannot take this build order at this time? I cannot wait for an unknown number of months to order a new truck; and as I see it now, my ’95 Nissan XE-V6 KC 4x4 might just be my last Nissan. I need to know when Nissan will take my build order and that requires a rather specific date. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,

Quad buddy, I feel for you, I really do. I know it's hard. I really hope you get a response from this. What happens if you can't order until mid-april. I know your trip will be a little messed up, but it will still happen right? Would you still get the Titan?

Top 10 Ways You Know You're a Hopeless Procrastinator:
I have never (ever) heard of anything like this in my life. A dealer not wanting to sell/order/call in a favor from another dealership, to get a truck for a customer?
Is there another thread with more info on this? You got me interested. I'll even go so far as jump on my Harley and take a ride to my dealership just to see what they say about ordering this truck. (More fuel for the fire.)
That dealer just want to sell what they have in stock or can get quickly since ordering one for you is going to take a few months and they may lose your business during that time. The reality is any dealer can order anything that you can build from the website, it's just a matter of them wanting to or not. They take that risk.
Take your business somewhere else.

We just bought our Titan less than three weeks ago at Eisenhauer Nissan in Wernersville, PA. The salesman, (Bob Straus) was so well informed, friendly, and helpful that it was worth the 1+ hour drive from home to go there. They also gave us a price $1700 less than anyone else in the area and got us financing 4% lower than anyone else *said* they could.
When we got there to finish the deal, our truck was centered in the show room floor, detailed and ready to go. He spent an hour going over all the details of the truck with us and another 30 min going over the paperwork and the deal. We felt like the whole place revolved around us and our truck.
In other words... a class act and we are happy with them
After reading your post, I called Bob and asked if this was possible.
He said *maybe*, but he sure never had that problem.
At my suggestion, he gave me an 800 number you can call him.
He knows you are in Upstate NY and selling you a truck is not
altogether reasonable, but he said he'd be happy to talk with you
and help any way he can. Like I said, good people at that dealership.
If He DID find what you want, wouldn't surprise me if he drove it half way to New York for you himself..... (g)

Wow that is so cool, I bet all Quad T is going to crap when he reads this.
I believe that some websites (like edmunds etc.) will allow you to contact dealers nearby to help you after you enter in your preferences etc. I did this for a Ranger that I was going to purchase (but I decided to go for a titan) and it was up to the dealers to respond back to me.
I'd look up the dealers in your area and tell them that you WILL be buying a Titan, and give them the specs. let them know that if they cant' fulfill your requirements per your research, you'll go to the next dealer that will. Give them your phone number, then hang up...They'll call if they want the sale...
I have that exact truck . Every Package you listed exactly with the exceptiont that mine has the offroad package also, but I don't see why that should matter?
Only difference being that the color on mine is Red Brawn on the outside instead of Red Alert.
expect to pay about 30,000.
I had a hard time locating this truck I had to go to 3 different dealerships before any of them had the packages I wanted on a KC truck. I didn't even care what the color was lol.
which part of the order were you told cannot be added?

I think what this comes down to is that Nissan builds trucks with certain colors and options at certain times. Perhaps they do a couple weeks of a certain interior color/option combo and Quad T has missed that window.
I remember reading something about the Japanese philosophy on building vehicles involved something called "just in time" parts delivery. Perhaps someone could explain it better, but they like not to have excess parts inventory on hand.
Doesn't mean the exact truck he want's isn't sitting on a lot somewhere, just that his dealer is too lazy to look for it.

This is true, but it doesn't affect the ability of the dealer to order a truck. The "just in time" means that the suppliers are shipping the parts to the factory in a given time frame for immediate use. At Honda, the parts would arrive sequenced on the truck, and they would go on the line in order, right off the truck. There was actually a nine minute window for the truck to arrive, dock, be unloaded and moved out of the way. Most suppliers would build plants within 2 hrs of the assembly plant (Marysville, OH in this case).
Cars and trucks are built in groups. For instance, at Honda, we would build a run of, say, 120 red cars. The first 30 may be v6 autos, the next 60 may be 4cyl autos, and then 30 4cyl manuals. Then there may be a 240 car run of white. Or whatever. But that would change on a daily basis, even from morning to noon, depending on how the orders came in from American Honda.
This dealer is full of $hit, or there is a misunderstanding.
