No I didn't get kicked out of the house I'm heading down to the Smokies for a photo trip in a week. I'll need to get up reeeeeal early a few mornings and it's such a pain to tear down a tent at 4:30AM. I've been kicking around ideas on how I can sleep in the back of my Crew Cab - not in the bed, but inside the cab. First I tried laying down on the floor but there's not near enough room for my 6'2" to lay straight. Then I took out the underseat storage tray and that opened it up a bit, but still there is not enough room on the floor.
My last idea was to see if the front seats would fold flat (backwards, not forwards) and to my surprise, they did. See the pics I attached... Other than the big hole directly behind the center console there seems to be a decent amount of room - enough to lay down and fully stretch out! It's lumpy of course but I *think* it will work. There is a large drop-down in height to the bottoms of the front seats but as long as I can stay on the back seat and seatbacks of the front seats it would be good.
So I was wondering has anyone else done this? Thought about it? Tried it? What about that giant hole behind the center console? I'm still trying to come up with some way to make it more level and less lumpy. Maybe take some foam or blankets and wedge it into the low spots? Maybe I could use two pieces of plywood (one large one woudn't fit through the doors I don't think), attach some soft foam to both sides and lay it across the seats. Then I could store it in the bed (under my Advance cover) when not in use.
man, get a $30 air matress and a $150 truck tent. You'll keep them forever and if your not driving far or fast thoughout the day while shooting pix, just leave the tent pitched. or break the tent down and get a bed net ($20) to cover it while driving. It looks like you have a sliding rear window, so there's where you'll get your heat/air.
The bed tent was my first choice before I got the lockable folding bed cover. I can't have the bed tent and the hard cover at the same time and I need to extra "trunk" space with the locking tonneau... Although I don't know how comfy I would have been in a 5.5' bed!
I'll take some pillows out there in a bit and see if I can get comfy. Hopefully none of the neighbors are watching................
Or try laying diagonally in the bed... but the tail gate down is a better idea if possible.
I've snoozed with my chair down flat before when I was starting to get tired to an unsafe level on a long trip. With the power chair I reclined the seat all the way then raised the bottom of the seat level and just let my legs hang down towards the pedals. Not bad at all, I didn't have any trouble falling asleep. Though when you're that tired, I think even a bed of nails would be nice.
I got to my campsite at 11 pm one night recently and instead of pitching the tent in the dark I slept in the cab with the seat back like you suggest. Didn't sleep the entire night though, just about 4 or 5 hours. It was fine. The only problem was when I got up and opened the door the alarm went off and woke up all my buddies. Doh!

Blow up an air matress inside the cab with the seats folded flat. It'll cover everything, and along with a 12-pack before bed, you won't feel a thing.
