Service Engine Soon Light

Today as I was backing out of my garage my Service Engine Soon light came on. The truck has 920 miles on it. I looked it the manual and it said the check the fuel cap and make sure it was tight which I did. Also it says that if there is less than 3 gallons in the gas tank it may come on but I have a quarter of a tank. The light is not blinking but is steady. Tha manual then goes on to say just to drive it on a "few driving trips" and see if it goes out and if it doesnt then take it to the dealer. Has anyone ever had this happen? Thanks for the help!

It's probably a trip by the O2 (that's oxygen) sensor. I had that problem with my Tundra. Easy fix by the dealer if you get it.

Is there a list of what each indication means somewhere?

MPNX2,

I had the same thing at around 500 miles. I did the self test and found the code was 1000. I took it to the stealer and they did a full diagnostic. They determined that the truck set a "false code" and they cleared it. I have almost 1700 miles now and the light has remained off. What code is it giving you? I can check the service manual, and give you some idea of what it means.

Best of luck, and enjoy your truck!!!

The light blinks something like this...

1 long pause
2 quick binks

It will cycle the above three times and then do 10 quick blinks. I have no idea what that means....

The engine light for my 2001 Frontier came on the day after I bought it. It ended up being a bad wire somewhere, so I say just take it back to the dealer, no?
