While on vacation I bought my Grandfathers 66' Chevy c-10, in May I'm planning to haul it from Alabama to Texas. U-haul quoted me $475.00 for a car hauler trailer 1-way. Anybody know of cheaper? The car dolly was $375.00 (lol). I want to use a full trailer, no dolly.

Aboslutely no help for you, but my dad has a 66 Stepside. Straight 6 (250?) w/3 on the tree. Very cool looking truck. His needs a lot of love in the cosmetic's department, but it runs great and has been in the family since brand new.
Can't help you on the price, but do make sure it can handle the weight. Most of the uhaul car trailers and dollys have a very limited max weight. I was looking at getting a K5 blazer and towing it from SC to AL, but it was too heavy for any of the uhaul trailers. I checked online to see their limitations.

i know that for like one way this company that a friend of mine uses called colianal carriers i think will charge upward of 2500 dollars for them to carry your car becuase my dad has to antique chryslers like early 70's ones and he has a car trailer that is enclosed but most of the people at the show that goes to in hershey PA use colonial carrier
If the old truck is a stick shift the dolly will tow it beautifully. I use a dolly to tow my car behind the motorhome and it works like a charm. Why throw away an extra $100?
That price seems expensive. I rented an auto transport from Uhaul two-way a couple of months ago to haul a '56 Chevy with my Titan and cost less than half that. (See the attached contract)
If the truck you are picking up hasn't been driven in a long time I would suggest getting a transport. The tires could be dry rotted and could blow out and that would not be a good on a tow dolly. Another couple of tips. If the truck cannot be started be sure to take a boat trailer type winch with you. It is almost impossible to push a car up the transport ramps and a come-a-long or power pull takes forever since it can only pull two or three feet at a time then you have reposition it. The boat type winch will have 20 or so feet of cable on it and the UHaul transport has a place where you can temporarily attach it with a bolt. Also take a can of Fix-a-Flat and a portable air compressor to air the tires.

Thanks a ton fellas, Bayou I'll be sure to check on 2-way instead of one way.
When u-haul gave me the quote it was for 4-days, I'm not pullin' it with a yugo, I'll only need 2 days max. (I'm takin my brother in law)
