Cruise control "jumpy" on long descents at high speeds?
Had cruise set @ 75-80 mph on a long trip thru some mountains. Worked great at all times EXCEPT when descending a mountain with a ~5% grade. It would hold the speed but it would "jump" or "surge". Has anybody else experienced this? Is it some sort of system meant to slow your speed as gravity accelerates you??
Mine does this too. I don't use cruise much, so I haven't looked into it too much yet. I just figured it was the Titan's way of controlling speed on the descent. It would definately be nice if this was smoother, since I was enjoying the peace and quiet on a long trip until this "feature" kicked in and woke up the girlfriend.

Yeah, its nothign that REALLY concerns me, as long as its normal and not a problem I should get fixed before the warranty is up. If others see it too I will just ignore it I guess.
I actually found the cruise system to be the best out there, and that torque..man is that nice. I drove the same route (blue mountains) that I usually drove in my Tacoma...which would down and upshift constantly trying to maintain speed. The Titan, even with cruise on at 80 mph and going up 5%+ grades...it just sat at 2k rpms and hummed right thru it. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! :d

They all do it!!
The downhill surging with cruise control on is "NORMAL" on the Titan according to my SM when I asked him...mine does it too.....but I never had a vehicle that did. It's not too bad but makes you think something is not normal!

My 1991 F150 did the same thing. However, you'd think 14 years later that this kind of thing would be addressed. Since it only happens on steep decents, I haven't worried about it much with my Titan.

I noticed that it only happens to me when little to no throttle is needed. I've also had it lurch like that when I apply the slightest amount of throttle when putting accross a parking lot. Anything over 1/20 throttle is fine.
Yup, boise as well. Any mods to your Titan?? We should organize a boise get together soon, I've met at least 2 other guys in town with nice Titans on this board...
