In some places premium is only .10 more in price. That doesn't require much improvement to pay for the difference. I have 40K on my Titan and I have used both 87 and 91. I can consistently get enough better mileage to pay for the extra 7% in added cost. I have probably used premium for over 20K miles and I use it all the time.

I can't use all the power I get from 87 Octane. I can't even go as fast as the truck can. Why does everyone want More More More.

I've been tracking my mileage on my titan since I bought it (34 tankfulls) The past two fill-ups I put premium (91 octane) and noticed an increase on my MPG by about 1mpg (both premium tanks scored 16.4 mpg) The best non-freeway MPG I've seen out of the first 32 tanks of regular was 15.4

I haven't run through enough tanks to be certain but so far it looks like premium is a more cost effective fuel to run through our titans. At least when gas is expensive (> $2.20 for regular) then Premium gas becomes the more cost effective fuel. An additional benefit is that you also visit the pump less frequently (which saves you even more).

I'll continue to collect more data using premium so I can be more certain on my findings.

btw, the reason I tried this out was because of the advertising for the infiniti version of our same engine that requires premium and advertises greater HP.

Maybe on yours, but I did the same test almost a year ago, I ran two tanks of 93, premium, The mileage did not go up at all. 15.62 on the first, 15.44 on the second. My average for 60 tanks of gas is 16.14, 2 premium and the rest regular. The difference between reg and prem is .20 per gallon. That is over $4.00 per fill up. As of Feb. 19, 2005, I have used 1248.5 gallons of gas, that would have been $250 more for premium.
