another monday

Hello titantalk. This is a good one. Well I had 3700 mi on my oil so I decided to change it. Went and picked up the castrol syntec 5w30 and proceeded to my house. Told the wife before dinner I would let the oil drain. Removed the skid plate and realized the dealer stripped out one of the screws. Well whatever i thought thats why Im doing it myself now. Took the drain plug out and the oil came flying out like from a fire hose. Missed my drain pan by 10 inches. Got up my sleeve and on my hat. Took the filter off and then it started to pour rain. Now I have oil all over and Im getting soaked. Then the darkness set in and it was time to fill it up. With my light, the umbrella, and paper towels I proceeded to pour oil Knowing I dont want any water in the filler tube. Then I hear a tink clunk and that was my filler cap falling into the engine compartment somewhere. Took 30 min to find it. After everything 2 hour oil change. But I did it myself. The dog is still sore. Maybe now would be a good time to start drinking. See ya.

Another fine example of one of Murphy's laws; "whatever can go wrong will go wrong!" Sounds like you had a crappy day, hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I got you beat. The 2nd time I changed my TITAN's oil, i forgot to remove the plug that covers the hole in the drain pan. While the oil was draining, I went back up to apartment to take care of a few things. When I came back down, all I see is my own personal Exxon Valdez completely contained under my truck.

My tools, the train pan, and the everything else are submerged in a pool of oil. I flipped out and frantically grabbed lots of shop town and threw them on the ground. A 20 min oil change turned into a 1 1/2 hour fiasco.

I learned, and now I have a back of cat litter "Justin Case"

Dude, I am so sorry, but that made me laugh. It is just one of those things that makes me happy because I know that I'm not the only one that things like this happen to.

But I still don't understand why your dog would be sore. Did you make him crawl through the engine compartment to find yor cap?

I have found a screws/bolts stripped on my titan from the factory.
They also stripped my skidplate bolts out, I noticed when I removed the Skid to install the grill. Luckily it wasent compleatly strippe dout and PRG re-tapped the bolt for me. Still did not screw in as perfect as teh other side of the skid, but they way they were threaded in I could barley get the bolt out!

I also found a screw only tuned 1/2 way in in my center console. I got a screw driver and tried to pu tit in but it would not budge. I figured it was compleatly crossthreaded in the first 2 turns from the factory and I have yet to fix it. Dealership wants the truck for a whole day to fix the screw, they told me they have to take the entire center console out to make sure it does not screw into any wires.. (Makes no sense to me) I mean why would you take the whole center console out and then put it all back together, you still not going to be able to see what the screw is going into, and obviously there should not be any wires under where this screw threads in...... Wish I had the tools to fix it myself, for now I just removed the screw.

I had a similar expierience but it was putting on my new bug guard. Was only supposed to take 10 minutes but I dropped a couple of parts into the engine compartment. Then it got dark. I had the GF outside with me holding 2 flashlights and I had a long screw driver with a little ball of inside out duct tape on it, and I got all the parts. It was a miracle I found them. Had to take the plastic engine cover off to get one part. When I tried again to install the parts I made sure I put down a sheet across the engine compartment and it caught anything I dropped. DOH!!!!! Only took and hour to install...DOH!!!!
