Who has a remote starter???

Dealership said they would install it (for $350) but i would lose 1 key, since there is the microchip. I'm debating wether to do it now, or wait, because if i do it now it will go into my financing. They said if i dont want to lose a key, it will be another $100 to get a copy to use....

is this always the case? anyway around this? I know i can probably get it done for cheaper elsewhere, but i'm more concerned about the key thing right now.

He said i get 3 keys, is one a valet key? I doubt i would ever use that if so.

What do you guys think? Thanks!

Puv

That is a reasonable price, especially considering it is from the stealer. I have a viper 791 on my pickup and I love using it everyday. What brand/model are they talking about installing on your truck? Price is very much dependent on what alarm/autostart they are installing. Be warry of a cheap brand- In my opinion an autostart is really only as good as the range it can be activated from. AKA if you have a cheapo one installed and it is only good to 150 ft. is it really worth it? Look for something in the 1/4 mile range.

Also remember this particular device has the potential to make your pickup never start again, or leave you stranded. Pick a good one you trust. Also the key thing is legit. You need it for the transponder in the black part of the key. It makes the truck think the key is in the ignition. Make sure to either cut off the key part, or buy a blank though. No sense in giving a theif an actual key right under your dash to steal your car with!

Sorry I don't have a Titan like most others on this forum. I love the truck so much I come on here to read about it though. Anyways I had an 02 Altima and I put remote start on there. I received 3 keys for my car, one of them was a valet. You have to buy a component with the remote start where they place the key in this little box and a wire connects to the ignition on the steering wheel column. I can't remember if they destroyed my key, or if they just placed the whole key in this little box that obviously receives the signal from the key to allow the remote start to turn the car/truck over. Just my 2 cents on remote starts. I would buy an aftermarket remote starter. I have friends who have to go look through the front window to see if their car is started. I paid 170 for a commando car alarm with remote start. There is no need to take out the oem security system. Reason I mention my friends having to go visually see if their car started is because I bought one with a little digital lcd screen that verifies on screen that your car started. My friends have no range unless they are close to their car to start it. The commando alarm I purchased worked great, and has 2500 ft of range. I tested the range, it's great. Not sure if rules on this forum prevent links being posted, but you might look at www.commandoalarms.com or www.slickcar.com. If you buy from the internet you can then find a local car audio installer that will install the alarm for 150-200. I'm not sure what kind of alarm or intigrated remote start that Nissan will install, but I'm assuming it won't be as nice. The lcd remote is just nice to have, hit the button to call your truck at anytime to make sure doors are locked, or if the car is running. Good security too, notifies if glass breaks or if the trunk is open by paging the remote. Granted you truck has no trunk, just noting the features. Of course you have to be in range. Sorry for the long reply, just wanted to put in my 2 cents about my experience with remote start. Some people want to pay 500 dollars for a name brand remote start alarm. I definitely believe in the saying that you get what you pay for. As for the commando alarm I had it worked well. I have a cousin who has one installed, had it for a couple years now, works really well. Anyways good luck on your alarm shopping.

Any products from DEI (Viper, Python, Clifford) installed by an authorized dealer have lifetime warranty. They are great with range. I have been as far as over 1/4 mile and it still works. If you are close to NJ, I can recommend an authorized specialist to install it for you.

Who and where in New Jersey do you recommend? I'm interested too. I was told one of the most important factors in the install is to solder the connectors and not to use the scotch lock connections.

I got a 04 LE titan and I got the DEI autostart which goes along with the factory alarm. They also used my extra key for the remote start but gave me a free one for all this other inconvenience I went through like MY SALESMAN GOT FIRED THE DAY AFTER HE SOLD ME MY TRUCK. It doesnt have a 1/4 mile range but its far enough for keeping the factory look. I got it at the "D-Tronics" around town installed for around 350.00
