a couple weeks ago, a put on the rancho 4" lift kit along with some new wheels and 35" nitto trail graps. before these changes, i had noticed that i had some slight steering wheel shake when going over bumps (what i call bump steer). after these mods, it's still there and a bit worse. i get steering wheel shake at 40+ mph on smooth pavement. i get bump steer (steering wheel shake) when i go over almost any irregularity in the road and feel more "road feedback" than i should in the steering wheel.
things done so far..
had the front end components checked by my trusted mechanic. he couldn't find any worn components. he checked bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar end links, and the u-joints on the front drive shaft. he also re-torqued all the fasteners on the lift kit. he said everything was nice and tight with no play in anything.
had the tire shop re-balance, rotate, and re-torque the wheels/tires. no improvement.
like i said previously, i did notice this before these changes but they were significantly less. now, post mods, they're definitely more noticeable.
one thing i noticed this weekend.. while towing my boat (which weighs roughly 3k lbs) the symptoms were a fair amount less. they were still present, but definitely less dramatic.
can anyone come up with some other possibilities of what might be the cause?? thanks!
