detailing plans for the weekend.... opinions wanted!

OK, after nearly 2 weeks with my new Blizzard White Titan, I think I have stored up enough ambition and energy to give this thing it's first proper cleaning.... Here's my game plan:

1. park in shade.
2. medium strength solution dawn wash to remove prior wax/etc layers.
3. dry
4. clay-magic kit clay bar with sufficient amounts of lube to remove remaining surface contaminants.
5. weak strength solution dawn wash again to remove all remaining debris.
6. micro-fiber drying towel.
7. low abrasive polish with Porter Cable 7424 + a fine polishing pad.
8. micro-fiber wipe down to remove all polishing residue.
9. wash again with general purpose car wash soap such as Meguiars MXT Wash
10. micro-fiber drying towel.
11. Liquid-Glass pre-cleaner.
12. two or maybe three layers of Liquid-Glass applied with the PC 7424 as usual.
13. collapse in recliner from exhaustion.

Any suggested changes to this crazy plan ???

Thanks, Jerry

You have some serious psychological issues. Might I suggest keeping steps 1 and 13 and re-write steps 2 thru 12 to include; driving your Titan; drinking some brews (but don't mix the two); or getting laid.

And if you insist on following this self destructive path might I suggest using my truck as your guinea pig.

I shared my detailing plan with some other car-nuts and they also feel I am in need of psychological help (they're probably correct). I'll probably have this truck for a long time, so I hope to be able to more easily keep it clean after I do this initial hard work.

That's just TMI!

I feel like I'm reading TITAN PORN!

Do you mean Dawn dish soap? I've heard that you should never use dish soap on vehicles.

Yes, I did mean Dawn dish soap. Normally you'd never use it on a vehicle because it tends to remove any and all protective coatings (such as wax), but since I want to get right down to the clear coat for this insanity I want the stripping power of the dish soap.

you got OCD, but damn it, good for you. put on a shade, just in case you blind yourself with all that shine......LOL

if i'm lazy, i'll take my truck to a car wash, let the guys clean it good, then i'll take the truck home and finish off.

Not bad

I just detailed mine this week as well. I waxed the crap out of it and it sprinkled the next day.
You are in the right path for doing things right. i do have to tell you that you will be tired and sore when your done, this is one big truck.
Let us know how it turns out.

One Beat Dog

Washed mine for the second time last night. After the first wash (week and a half ago) gave it a good waxing. Wanted to get a second waxing on before the heat of the summer.

Shamied (sp?) it dry last night and then got up this moring to do the wax.. Start to stop = 2hours. I've never had a truck take this long to wax. It is frickin huge..

I suppose using the power tools might speed things up a bit, but I like to become one with my machine.. wax on.. wax off. The added benefit of doing it by hand is finding every little bug, nick, and scrape.

I'll hold a beer up for you and say.. To our brothers slaving away over their beloved Titans as you work you hind quarters off.

You need a Porter Cable 7336 my friend. Better known among professional detailers as a PC.
