Quick question-need help

Hey, yall, im changin my oil as we speak and this is my first time changing the oil and i dont want to mess it up. I looked in the manual and it doesn't really show where the drain plug is exactly. I was wondering if it was the plug that is about a foot behind the oil filter on the passenger side of the vehicle that is plugged into a black canister thing?

Yes, that sounds like it. Just changed mine last night. It's on the front passenger side corner of the oil pan (which really doesn't look too much like a normal oil pan.)

Is it at the H line when the engine is cold or hot? You should always add oil according to a warmed up engine. I usually add 6qts after a drain and filter replacement then run the engine till warm then check after a few minutes to let the oil drain back into the pan. Then I usually need to add a little bit. I believe the manual calls for 6.5qts after a full change including filter. If it's right at the H line while hot then I wouldn't worry about it, if it's there at cold then you might have a problem.

If you haven't started your engine yet, and you also changed the filter you will be fine. The filter I think holds around a 1/2 qt. Don't quote me on that. Once you start you engine the filter will fill up. Check your level after warming as Sammy suggested.

cool thanx guys, yeah the engine was running when it was past the H. It had been running for about 5 or 10min and the temp guage in the truck had gone to the normal almost halfway point. This was the worst oil change ever. lol everything that could go wrong went wrong. First, i could get the bolt off the pan, then the thing i was draining the oil into had a real small hole that i missed when i looked at it before using it and i didn't notice until about 2 quarts was on the ground. I put down cat litter. then i got the oil filter off. but new one on. then i started filling up with new oil. Got thru 4 quarts, then checked the little rod thing and it showed nothing. "WTF, O ****! forgot to put the plug back on the oil pan. Looked under the truck and there was a ****load of oil running. Jumped on the ground and put the plug in, then used the rest of the kat litter back. Then i used 6 more quarts checked it was around the Low area. Put another bottle in, and it was past the high. "****" went down to drain a little out, and busted my nuckle tryin to get the oil pan bolt loose again. "**** that hurt" Then drained a bit, put it back in, and then checked the level, with engine hot it was an the right side of the H. "**** it" Cleaned up. "No beer" And to top it off, my dads gonna kick my *** when he sees the big oil spot on the driveway. ALL IN A DAYS WORK.

Sure beats paying the $25 at the dealership dont it?

Changing the oil is a simple chore, but its not one that everyone needs to take on .

one thing is, i probably wont be chaning my oil anymore cause i think im allergic to oil. When my skin got exposed to the dry oil. I wiped it all off with a rag and i had a buncha round red dots on my arm everywhere.

What do i do since i have overfilled on engine oil. I just checked the level again after parking my truck in the garage and letting it sit for a minute, and the oil on the dipstick is way past the High mark. It looks like it is actually at the second bent part on the dipstick

Just drain some out. Not a big deal. But def. don't leave it overfilled.

Empty the oil from whatever you use to collect it, then drain some of the fresh stuff, but don't re-use it!!

This is why I just let the dealer change my oil. No mess or fuss, plus its cheaper since I paid 149.99 for ten oil changes, comes to about 15.00 a change, cant beat that. And since the titan holds more than the standard 5 quarts, its even a better deal.

I know you are already fineshed with the job but, here is what I do I fill the oil filter up with oil let it soak in then fill it again 3/4 of the way put 6.5 qts in the engine let it drain, check it if it is ok I start the engine and look for oil pressure the whole time. Get out check for oil leaks (basicly anything that was touched drain bolt, oil filter etc.) if ok shut off wait 1/2 hour then recheck if oil level is ok then you are good to go.
