Gentlemen--

Thanks for the input. I will respond in a couple of ways. The reason the delta is so large between the price of the Z71 and the Titan is I have about $3k on a GM card I can put toward the truck. Other than that, there is about a $1k difference. The Titan I am looking at stickers about $32k with all of the options (CPT chairs, off road, big tow, mats, and maybe the bed package).....I figured $26k for all of that is pretty good, but maybe not. I think they are selling the truck at close to invoice, then throwing in the rebates on top of that.

Again, I am really leaning towards the Titan because it is meets or exceeds everything I want in a truck. Including BFG tires stock, with Rancho shocks, alum engine, and locking rear diff. The first thing I will install if I get the truck will be the PRG (?) leveling kit. Makes the truck that much sharper (IMO).

Actually--the smartest decision is probably to drive my Trooper until the wheels fall off, then get the truck. Probably could get into a bigger house, then--but what fun would that be?

One large difference is Nissan gives you a 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty and GM doesn't. Second difference and annoyed me while considering a Silverado or GMC is the front seats are leather and rear seats are vinyl, Nissan gives you leather in the back seat too. It may be just be me, but I find it offensive to be cheated. Have you seen the new "everyone gets employee pricing" campaign? It shows how bad they need to boost sales. Had they done business a little differently, I could have had a Chevy and they'd have one more unit sold. Instead, I own my 11th Nissan in a row.

I traded an 03 Silverado LS with the 5.3 and 4.1 rear for the Titan and if you haven't taken a test drive you really owe it to yourself to drve both back to back. Especially on less than perfect pavement. I also think there is some more play in the Titan price.

I believe that the Titan does get better fuel milage than the chevy even if its only 2-4 miles per gallon...
NOT

The 4.8 & 5.3 engines from GM get better gas mileage than the Titan 5.6, but that's to be expected, they are smaller and less powerful.

I recently traded my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab 4X4 in on a 2004 Titan SE crew cab 4X4. The Titan has a larger back seat than the Chevy/GMC 1500 crew cab, I'm not sure how the extended cabs compare, and that was one of the deciding factors for me (I have twin 8-year old boys who are growing like weeds).

In the end, however, I got a better deal on the Titan than on a Chevrolet/GMC. The GM dealers did not want to deal with my trade-in at all. My Nissan dealer gave me what I considered a decent trade-in value on my old Chevy and took $7000 off the sticker price of the leftover Titan.

I liked my old Chevy truck and I would probably have been happy with the '05 Z71 crew cab I was considering too, but the Titan offers more interior room and more power, and in my case, for less money. Now that's an irresistable combination!

Well, I went by the GMC dealer this afternoon to check out the latest "Employee Pricing" campaign....the cost of the GMC went up by about $1-$2k...go figure. Because they were offering a $5k rebate on the truck before, and now they are offering less of a rebate (~$3k), but offering the employee pricing. May be a good marketing campaign (to be determined...), but it is making my decision to go with a Titan an easier one.

Also--the Nissan dealer(s) that I am talking to are selling them at a thousand or more under invoice, and then throwing in the rebates. Sounds like a pretty darn good deal to me....

The factors that swung my purchase:
VDC
Side airbags/curtains
ABLS
Implied reliability

Yes I own a Titan but an not blindly loyal, it has its issues and if enough owners recognize and highlight em, the manuf may become motivated to offer a fix. If we all make like we don't know of any defects then its easier for the manuf to just ignore the issues.

Use the GM points on a Corvette instead!

Then DUMP that card and get a Citibank Driver's Edge Card which gives you a smaller rebate (only 2%), but on ANY car purchase or lease, even used cars!

That GM card is like selling your soul!
