Arrow Taking my buddies boat to the river!!

Ok, people. This is the deal. I have the CC with the big tow. And next weekend Im going to pull my buddies boat to thr river. The boat is a 25 or 26 foot bow rider waterjet. My guess is that its in the 3500 to 4000 pound range. We are going from the riverside ca. to havasu about 500 mi. round trip. ok now for the questions........

1. Tow mode?
2. Mostly flat. 4th or 5th in the flats?
3. Rearend seasoning. My Titan will go over 12k on this trip. Do I still have to season the rearend? (no more then 50mph for 500 miles with intermitant brakes to let it cool)

I did do a few searchs but all were pretty vage.

What do you think?

I would tell him to take his own truck to save the wear and tear and mileage on yours. I tow pretty often and have found overdrive works well on flat streachs and you get better mpg with light loads as long as the engine is not strugling.

The only thing is it is going to be very hard to do 50 it seems to take forever at 80. But i will do 50 do keep my truck from geting damaged. Just have to bring the dvd player though.

If you havent already made the switch i would get some 75w140 for the rear and change it before the trip and tow 70mph without worrying to much.

Yes, you still need to break in the rear end.
I second what COTitan posted and let you friend pull his own toys. My opinion is from the standpoint of when your truck shows its miles later on you'll wish it still had more miles left in it.

95 Wellcraft Nova Spider 454 Magnum (350 hp)
73 mph (GPS) It really likes the gas too!

89 SE V6 hardbody w/320,000 miles used to pull
my boat.......(needed a bigger truck).

Options in order:
2 degree timing advance thanks to Titanblue,
Fram AirHog, Nissan Hood Protector, Truxedo, Nissan XM receiver (mounted under steering wheel area as per Forum recommendations....worked like a charm)
with non-Nissan much smaller Xm antenna (mounted through Third brake light hole...piece of cake), and last....so far, PRG leveling kit (love it....no problem install after I realized that I really should listen to PRGreg about disconnecting the anti sway bar)

1. Tow Mode on.
2. Keep it in 4th.
3. Wouldn't worry about the rearend. Your load is not heavy.

I believe all 75w140s are synthetic, they do offer 85w140 none synthetic but i would definently do synthetic which you already did so you should be ok.

With only a 4000-lb load I would just hook it up and go. If you haven't checked your differential oil yet I would do that before you go. Other than that, have a safe trip!

I think a 25 or 26 foot bowrider is going to weigh more like 6000-7000 pounds with fuel and the trailer.

You might want to check with your friend and get the actual specifications.

Does the trailer have surge brakes? And if not, did you make any provisions for an electric brake controller?
