Effect of right foot on gas mileage

Well, I somehow managed to keep from flooring my truck more than 10 times during a tank of gas. I still didn't drive like a grandma, and my mileage went from 14 mpg avg to 16 mpg. Imagine that. Now if I could just turn off the part of my brain that likes the acceleration of that big V8 I could save a ton of money..

I have to do the same thing with my brain.
It keeps sending me to the Bud 30-packs when I could save money by buying zima pee.

Screw it, die broke and happy.

Talking

I've been getting great gas mileage, I don't hit over 1500 rpm accelerating,
I turn the a/c off and the recycle on when accel or going up hills, as well
as turning off the a/c and the recycle on when I get cold, I think keeping
the air off as much as possible helps, probably 1mpg? I also don't drive
more than about 65mph. I also try to anticipate stop lights, instead of racing up to get trapped waiting, I try to slow way down in advance and hope to be able to catch it green and not loose all of my momentum. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I also slip it into neutral sometimes on downhills, or when I don't need any acceleration. Call me grandpa!

If you could do that, then you might as well go buy a Prius!

With all that extra work, what do you get for MPG?

No offense dude, but hearing that makes me kind of sad...... You are supposed to enjoy it, not stress over keeping it under 1500 rpm's. I'm not trying to burn you or make fun, but the power and "fun to drive" aspect is why I bought "Josie", my Titan. Unless this is how you just like to drive, lighten up. Just my 2 cents.

Got 19.6 1st tanks on ride home-not above 13.5 since then

A year ago when I drove my Titan home from TX(Grubbs in DFW-to near New Orleans) I drove like a full on sissy candy ***, just so I could brag about my MPG-19.6 over 505 miles-one tank.I kept it under 65(I did have to vary the RPMS for breakin),used cruise quite a bit,and got off the gas waaay early when coming to potential slowdowns. Most important(well, not as important as the 60 mph) I used the brakes as little as possible.Want good mpg-get off the gas early enough so that you don't use the brakes much.
Since than in pure city driving I've never gotten above 14 mpg.On the hy,I'm sure I could get 20,if I used cruise, and set it at 60 mph.Good to know,if gas ever hits $4/gal.Thanks.Charlie

I just got back from from a dive trip to FLA. Drove from Charleston, SC to Crystal RIver FL, about 1/3 of the trip was on back roads and still got 19+ miles per gallon, and that was using the A/C and fighting thunderstorms off and on...

I find I am constantly seeing between 15.5 and 16.0 mpg no matter how I drive. I do know that the Navigation computer is not accurate because it just told me I had 45 miles until empty at 15.5 mpg and I could only put in 18 gallons. That means I would be getting 4mpg for those last 10 gallons. Somehow I doubt that or I would never get home from work (60 miles each way) without stopping a few times to fill it up.

My grandpa driving, gives me 16 to 17 in the city (Dallas)

and no better than 20 on the highway.

And yeah it seems kinda sad, but I'm so tight on money right
now I'm trying be able to keep making payments, and keep
the Titan.

My job requires me to drive about 500 - 800 miles a week, I did
have a little gas sipper 95 Saturn but the thing died!

The funny thing though is I find that I get passed by a ton of
people as I accelerate out of lights, but I usually just catch
up with them at the next light, they have been waiting at. And
I just keep rolling on.

i DON'T UNDERSTAND THE GOING FROM A/C TO RECYCLE. A/C MIXES OUTSIDE AIR WITH INSIDE AIR FOR SOME FRESH AIR BUT WORKS YOUR A/C SYSTEM HARDER COOLING THE HOT OUTSIDE AIR. RECYCLE OR RECIRCULATION JUST TAKES AIR FROM INSIDE THE TRUCK AND COOLS IT AGAIN. BEST USED WHEN TEMPS ARE VERY HOT AND HUMID.

gas my azz

Ya know, I dont want to sound rude or ****y ( and I know I will ), but I really dont mean it that way.
Who gives a sh-t about mileage when you drive a Titan!!! I know I havent posted a billion times, but I lurk here every day to feed on alot of the info posted here, and I love my Titan.
I have the money to blow on fuel, I have a heavy left foot, and the truck gives me the grunt and the power I crave. I'm not changing nothing.Usually I wont even open the mileage threads because it always the same bull---t, but I felt like responding tonight. Thanks for letting me vent

Don't stress over punchin it. What really kills the mileage is the brake.
