Anyone ever install a kill switch?

I was reading on a jet ski forum about a guy who installed a switch under the rail of his truck bed that cut off power to the fuel pump as a theft deterrent. Upon exiting the truck, he'd just inconspicuously run his hand under the rail and hit the switch. Anyone here ever done something like that? How hard would it be? For even more security, put the switch in the lock box on the rear driver side panel, although that would probably keep me from even using it.

It's not hard at all, just get any kill switch like they use for car alarm, basically find the ignigtion wire cut that and two connection, now find where you want to hide a switch to throw the relay.

I have one in my track car, since it only runs on the track it is kind of a theft waiting to happen the rest of the week. I have also done this on several of my vehicles. I would recommend the kill switch be in the vehicle, so somebody watching you could not see you trip it from the outside. Hide it inside near the door so you can use it easily getting in and out. If it is not easy to use you will not use it, and if you make it to easy, somebody could see you use it. Also one other thing I thought of as I was typing this was buy a switch for your truck that you do not have the componet for, so the switch looks factory, and wire it into the ignition from behind the dash. For instance I have two blank buttons in the center, and could order the button from the dealer, and use it does it does not look like a kill switch.

Now that is a fantastic idea. One thing to keep in mind is to put the switch in one of the areas where you are less likely to accidentally activate it. Turning off the Ignition @ 70 won't do it any good.

I have these switch spot avail. I really do not want to drag out the manual to figure out which one is what, but which of these would have a push button type switch.

Well, if you were after the factory look, I belive in the center console you would have two options, on the left of the Tow Mode switch would be the "Rear Diff Lock Switch". I think this particular switch would work well as I know it is a maintained switch.

On the right is where (don't quote me on this) the "VDC" switch would be. As I don't have this feature, I can't tell you if the switch is maintained or not.

As for the lower left switch area, I can't recall ever seeing anything other than the pedal adjustment and the rear sonar disable switches there.

If you want to keep it "stealth like", you'll want to use a switch that's not already in your truck.

Hope this helps.

I think the one for the other side is for the Rear power sliding window if my memory is working. The little blan ks can be pops right out and put in a ordered switch. I will talk to my parts guy tommorow, and see if he can figure out would be the best option since it will have to work when the truck is off.

Alrighty, here's the scoop, if you take a gander at your pedal adjustment switch, it is what's called a "momentary" switch. This means that the contacts are only connected when you hold the switch in either the up or down position. The springs inside make it return to the neutral state.

If memory serves me correctly the sunroof switch operates the same way.. this won't work.

I went out and tested the "Rear Diff Lock" switch and it is a "maintained" switch.. meaning that it stays in whatever position you select. If on, it stays on until turned off. This would be the switch of choice as there doesn't have to be any power to it for it to function and actually make the contacts open or close.

If you are going to see your parts guy, would you ask how much the "Sonar Disable" switch is for me, I'm working on an aftermarket system with a display that will end up in the overhead console and thougth that the factory switch to disable it would be a nice touch.

Good Luck.

The Nissan security system has this built in. The fuel pump and starter circuits are disabled if you don't have the proper key, with it's transponder chip, inserted in the switch. So you can't just "hotwire" the truck, you need the key.

If what you say is true, then how is it that I can start and drive my Titan with the VALET key(which doesn't have the chip)? The key with the chip IS required to open the center console and the
outside/rear/left storage box. Man, now that I look at it, I'd rather have it the other way around, or two different keys with two different chips.

I will have him check it on monday, and see if he can get it as close to you as possible, and have it shipped direct. I am sure he will take payment over the phone for a club member, plus he give us a 20% discount on anything purchased.

Your valet key does have the NVIS chip. You can't start the truck without the chip. Quote from the Owner's manual:

"The Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System (NVIS) will not allow the engine to start without the use of a registered NVIS key."

Opening the center console does not require a chip. The valet key is cut different so it won't open the console.

Question about the NIS system. What does that mean if I lose a key? Do I have to have all new keys made?

I still may find a spot for a kill switch, for a extra layer of protection. Thieves have found ways around many Manufacturer Disabling systems before. It is only a matter of time before they find away around it.

They already have, they carjacked you when you are in it with the engine running.
