Help Identifying bed with Tailgate Assist

I just had a new bed put on my 04 CC LE under warranty (bedliner bubbling). They did a nice job on it.

The new bed came with a new tailgate and the dealer said that the bed was an 05 bed, however, the tailgate does not go up and down easily enough for my 100 lb Wife. Obviously the assist part is not installed.

My question is; how can I identify that this bed is actually capable of adding the assist? I thought I heard someone say that if you remove the passenger side taillight assembly, there is something obvious.

Any insight to identify the possibility of adding the assist would be appreciated.

If you meet resistance when you are putting the tailgate down, then you have the tailgate assist. If not then it would not surprise me that they did not replace the bed at all, rather they fixed it. From what I was told, they weren't replacing the bed any longer for bedliner bubbling. When I had mine replaced several months ago, my service advisor told me that Nissan had just sent out an updated process that documented (via a 58 page instruction booklet) that the bubbling problem was to be resolved via a supplied kit or contracting out to a local bedliner shop. They had to take pictures of my bedliner and send them off to Nissan, so who knows maybe they never fully implemented the fix and depending on the case are replacing the bed. I know I got the tailgate assist after I took it in for the bubbling issue. Who knows what Nissan is doing anymore

They did put on a new bed because I saw it delivered and then saw my old one packed to ship. I think it is an 05 bed but they did not install the mechanism that assists the tailgate. I just need to find out how to verify it can be installed.

Look to the right tailgate hinge. It should have two little pins that stop the tailgate travel, one towards the front of the truck, the other one pointing upwards at 90 degree angle.

I pulled the light and low and behold, I have the ability to get the assist. I guess when they put on the 05 bed, there was no shock on the 04 bed and therefor, they never put a shock in. However, the mounts are all there so I just have to order the shock with it's bolts.

Thanks for the info.

THATS CORRECT THAT ARM WILL BE ON THE TAILGATE DOOR ON THE RIGHT ATTACHED TO THE DOOR THEN THE SHOCK SNAPS INTO IT AND BEHIDE THE LIGHT IT SNAPS INTO ANOTHER THING.ALSO IN ORDER FOR THIS TO FIT THEY HAD TO DRILL A HOLE INTO THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK SO THE ARM THAT HOLDES THE SHOCK CAN BE BEHIND THE TAIL LIGHT BECAUSE THATS WHERE THE SHOCK GOES I GOT ALL THIS FROM THA DEALER TO SEE IF I CAN CONVERT MINE.

So you are attempting to retro fit this to an '04 bed? If so, be sure to take lots of photos, I'm interested.

BTW, the caps lock key is on the left side of the keyboard, about midway down.

Just to clarify; my 04 bed was replaced with the 05 bed under warranty. The only thing that did not come with it was the shock for the tailgate.

Just because they replaced your bed with an 05 bed does not mean you will infact get tailgate assist as well. If you didn't get it, the only way you're gonna get it now is to pay for it and install it yourself
