Ok, Ive been doing some shopping. Maybe a bit pre-mature depending on when my wife takes my choke collar off, but at least I know where Ill stand come New Titan Day.
I spent the last few days reading carbuyingtips.com and decided to do the online quotes from several dealers.
Here's my best one --
2005 Nissan Titan XE King Cab 4WD FFV w/
-Spray in Bedliner
-Offroad Package
-XE Prefferred
-Side Airbag
-Floor Mats
$24,989 after rebates including delivery. Thats the Walking price before tax/title/tags/
Thats $5351 below MSRP, $2360 below invoice.
Any thoughts on this price?
One dealer sent me an email back and said no Titan can be configured this way. Either he doesn't know his products or didn't want to make a sell.
i beleive you cannot have the OR pkg with side airbags

I am in a similar predicament concerning the airbags package.
My interpretation of the situation is that, theoretically, Titans are available in more options configurations than one will find them in practical, every day experience--particularly when it comes king cab models.
For instance, I would be perfectly happy with a base SE CC model with side airbags. However, the only SE CC models available with side airbags are 4X4 Titans (okay, I could use the 4X4 option occasionally); this also involves adding the Off Road option(4X4 + Off Road does make sense), a Rockford Foster (sic) package (useless since I would prefer to spend that money on a real stereo upgrade), the Utility Bed Package (pretty useful, since I'd be getting a Line-X job anyway), AND the Big Tow Package (I don't tow and dislike the fact that the gearing will reduce my gas milage even further).
So in a nutshell the Side Airbags option is not an $850 option but more like a $4004 option once you consider what one is obligated to buy along with the whole package deal.
Your situation (and mine) may be a regional thing. Manufacturers of all car make will often market different packages to different geographical areas depending on what their market research tells them will sell. Other than the obvious problem of not having desirable vehicles in your area to look at and sample, dealers will often offer better deals for those vehicles that are:
A. On their own lots.
B. In their regional area.
Due to the fact that it's difficult to get a Titan configured the way I want it, I am still strongly considering the Tundra Double Cab which, despite its aged looking interior, has a 6' bed, is likely to be a tad more reliable, and also boasts side airbags in many Double Cab (but few Access Cab) configurations.
I will be keeping an eye on any news of Nissan making it easier to find Titans with more options configurations in model year 2006.

According to NissanUSA.com you can. The way it works is if you choose Side Air bags it forces you to choose the Offroad, XE Prefferred and Spray in bedliner.. It's just the way they bundle it. You can however get the Offroad without the Airbags....just not the airbags without the Offroad. Carsdirect replicates this, as does Edmunds. You have to compare apples to apples though. The SE and LE configs are different. The SE for instance forces you to get the Utility Bed package, Big tow, and SE Popular if you choose side airbags. Go to cars direct or NissanUSA....youl see....
As far as the regional thing goes.....it must be. I am in Tennessee and none of the lots in my area have an XE with OR right now. But a quick look at the Mossy Nissan website in California show them with a dozen of the XE's set up just like I want to buy....Airbags and Offroad. I dunno how the one local lot quoted me that price....I assume they will either have to order it from the factory or make one hell of a long distance dealer transfer.

Exactly why I can't get the SE with Big Tow. Money is an obstacle for me and to get an SE instead of XE with the Side Airbag and Big tow, I will pay about 4000 more and half of that is options with the SE poplar and Utility bed package that I do not want/need/or able to afford.
Also, you mentioned the Offroad package as making sense, but it provides the same gear ratio as the Big Tow. All I really want is an XE 4x4 with Big Tow and Side Airbags. Too bad thats not offerred.
I highly recommend going to carmax.com and checking out their nissan dealer pricing, I used it as a tool to negitiate my deal and saved $6,000 on my se crew, also just know how much your taxes are and tag roughly , and avoid trading anything in , it only complicates the deal , good luck
