PRG Installer in ATX? Help a newbie

Anyone in Austin area have the PRG Kit installed that could maybe lend a helping hand?

I'm very hesitant to do the install but with my budget getting less and less I might be brave and do it myself, however I'm considering to just bite the bullet and get a local shop to install it but there seems to be no shop here that I can bring my kit too.

I have some shops that say they will but they were honest and said they've never worked on a Titan. - So I'm Hesitant

4wheelparts won't help b/c I'm not getting a kit they trust and want me to spend 3g's on a Pro-Comp or buy a Daystar kit which I do understand b/c that's the product they sell but they are convinced the PRG kit is junk and all that they sell is shiznit and there is no better. - So No Way In Hell am I going back there.

Another shop said b/c it's not a kit they sell it would be small premiumm to pay on the usual install cost but $400 bones for front and rear sounds hella steep. - So I'm Very Hesitant

I'm looking at the first option but I'm going to keep hunting though so please wish this newbie luck.

I'd keep trying different independent off-road shops. I had one install mine - no questions asked. They charged $60 an hour and it took 2 hours for the front and back. This kit is nothing exotic for these shops.

You can do it! It really isn't difficult to do and the only thing you need a shop for is for the alignment. I have been through 2 front end installs and the worst part of both was not being prepared before hand so we had to search for the sockets/wrenches we needed. If you read the instructions before hand and get your tools together (including a torque wrench) then everything should go smoothly. PRG is great with support if you have any questions or you can ask anyone here who has done it.

Check out my PRG page: http://www.tscomputerservices.com/titan/PRGkit.html
and my installation summary: http://www.tscomputerservices.com/ti...llsummary.html

YOU CAN DO IT!

Oh yeah, we are having a meet on July 17th here in Houston. If you bring all the tools, then you will have several people on hand that are experienced with this install. Only problem will be getting the alignment done before you drive back to Austin.

Havock is right. However, I know three people personally who I have helped do the work on their truck and every time, the allignment has been such that I personally would not fear driving back to Austin prior to the allignment being performed. It seems to barely throw it off. Bring it to the meet. We'll help you out.

Yeah, it is definitely driveable after the install. I put about 60 miles on mine before the alignment and could not tell that the alignment was off at all. I did go ahead and have it aligned just to make sure there wouldn't be tire wear issues with is being slightly toed out.

You could always try Pickup Heaven (one of the more expensive places in town though) or even possibly B&H Customs (either up at the north location on N Lamar @ Peyton Gin - behind Targa Workshop, which I'm not sure is even still there or not or the south location on S Congress I think). Who cares what 4wheelparts think - just cause they don't like it shouldn't be reason for them not to install it for a customer. That's just running away customers based on their own opinion. Oh well

I actually had my PRG installed at the Nissan Dealership where I bought my truck here in Atlanta. They did the install and alignment for under $200. You might call your dealership and ask if they will do the install.

Just another option...

Thanks for replies guys. I tried the dealership first, no harm in trying since I had to go there anyway and they said they couldn't. It was funny the shop manager said he would like to do it but the service manager apologized and said no. Oh well no harm in trying.

I went to B&H and they said $150 but mentioned as well that they've never worked on a Titan but saw the instructions and thought it was simple enough. I'll have to get my own alignment afterwards and so far that is the best price that I have found.

Star and Pickup Heaven wanted around 4+ bills to do it but were saying they thought the kit (from the pictures) looked cheap and offerred the Daystar instead. Let's just say that made my decision easy as I walked out the door.

I am most likely going to B&H Customs and try my luck there. I'm really excited and these guys have done great work on my previous Tacoma. I highly appreciate all the comments and especially the offer to help me at the Houston meet but unfortunately I will be in Portland that weekend. Would've been cheaper and I would've been able to meet all of ya'll.

Anyways...I'll keep ya'll posted and make sure to take pics as my Titan progresses.

HavockWK - on your PRG page, you showed the front leveling kit installed with a rear 1.5" lift... Is the rear of the truck higher now?

I though the PRG kit 'leveled' the truck. Sorry if this question is stupid, but I'm looking to 'level' my new CC and want to make sure I'm buying the right pieces.

Thanks,
uproar90 / mike s.

My truck needed a 2" front kit to level it. I went with a 2.5" front and 1.5" rear to get a small lift for the entire truck. With both of my kits installed I have about 1" of rake which is fine with me. I am actually about to lift the rear some more when I put in PRG's leaf packs and then I will be about 2.25" of rake. I am not a rake hater like some, I just want a small lift all the way around and PRG was/is the only way to go when doing that.

When you go to PRG's website (http://prerunners.com/store/store.htm), it will give you the option to pick the kind of truck you have, and that will give you the size kit you need to level. If all you want to do is level it to not have any rake, then just order the front leveling kit. If you want an overall lift, then get the front and rear kits with however much height you want to gain. In general, a 4x2 has 2.5" rake and a 4x4 has 2" of rake. So use those numbers and pick the look you want. If you have any further questions, you can always measure your specific truck and talk to PRG for further help.
