Gas mileage with PRG....

For those of you with the PRG kit, have you noticed your mileage get any worse? I know is only 2 inches, but did it make a difference? I hope not. mines bad enough (11.7 yikes!!) I;m getting ready to get his 2/1 kit and would like to know.

it wont make a difference really though. it makes the truck look so much better, its worth it!

I'm thinking about making some mods to my titan, what does the leveling kit do? Thanks all.

No change on the gas mileage.

dckwsu, the PRG leveling kit raises the front suspension 2" or 2.5" (depending on what you need) so that the front end of the truck is level with the rear end. The hugely positive side effect of the PRG kit is that it also gives your front suspension more compression travel with better bump stops so that your front end doesn't bottom out on bumps/dips in the road all the time. It makes the truck look bigger and it makes it ride soo much better!

I thought the same thing after my PRG kit install. But I don't drive my truck that often so it is hard to tell.

Sorry, but I have to ask, how does it improve the suspension travel since the leveling kit doesn't change the strut/spring configuration? I've heard many talk about how much better the ride is, but it doesn't make sense to me. Also, I checked the Stillen site (http://www.stillen.com/Supertrucks_d...d=63633&page=1) and they appear to sell a PRG-like kit. Their site suggests no change in ride quality:

"This kit balances the ride height from front to back by raising the front up to the level of the rear. This change in height does not effect the factory ride or spring rate."

Can someone enlighten me? Is it the bump stop that improves the ride? Don't get me wrong, I really like the looks of the PRG kit and have heard only positive things about the kit and Greg's support. I just want to understand if this is truly just an appearance change or does it affect ride quality. BTW, only talking about the leveling aspect and not the rear mini-lift. Thanks

PRG Kit

I had my front end leveled with the truck and it looks great and seems to ride a lot better. I haven't seen much difference in the mileage, getting around 16 miles per gallon.

uititan, the only measurable difference would be the addition of the urethane bumpstop, as it really aids to prevent hard bottoming. There is no tangible data to say the kit improves the ride in all conditions, and ill be the first to say that. But, most people seem to think that the truck feels better, whether its that the front is slightly taller and moves the weight bias slightly rearward or just the fact that the seat bottom is a bit more upright, im not sure. The stillen kit looks very similar to mine, but there are some major differences. Feel free to pm me and ill go into the details.

Thanks for the clarification Greg. If I purchase a leveling kit it would be from you. I'm just trying to learn more about the benefits, but didn't want to overstate them.

Greg:

Coming from a person who has only replaced stock shocks with equal replacements, what shock would be a good stock replacement shock for the titan that i don't have to change my racked look but would give me more travel. I'm hoping i don't have to do a leveling kit or mess with my springs for more travel. Any information that you give would be useful. I hope to replace my front shocks next year sometime and am gathering information.
thanks

I'll butt in even though your question was for Greg.

New shocks will not provide more travel. You could go with a stiffer shock but to increase travel you need to make some changes to your suspension. Greg is currently working on some kits to increase travel but it requires swapping out suspension components. Going with a stiffer shock could decrease your chances of bottoming out but it will also mean a bit more bumpy ride. It will not increase your travel.

I'm sure Greg can go into more detail but that is my $0.02

I am going to elaborate a little more on what PRG said. Since the coil spring is not preloaded, it maintains its factory spring rate and the shock also maintains its characteristics because it stays within its operating range just like it comes from the factory. The primary thing the front kit does to improve factory ride quality is to give you more compression travel so that when you hit a big bump, the front end does not bottom out on the bump stop after only 1" of compression. Also as PRG mentioned his bump stops are taller and progressive to give a smoother, more controlled compression than just bottoming out on an inadequate bump stop like we get from the factory.

See the attached pics and for a visual comparison of PRG's bump stops and available compression travel...
