whats up everyone? first i'd like to wish all you fathers out there a happy fathers day. i finally got my titan a little over a month ago, and what a pleasure it has been. i haven't had any time to post any pics b/c work has been so busy. it's a 2005 galaxy black cc 4x4 SE, pop capt package, bed package. i picked it up for a decent price that i am happy with.
now to my question. i want to add an aftermarket exhaust. i know this has been discussed multiple times, and trust me i have listened to all of the clips and read all of the threads on the topic. they were all a big help. i'm going to go with a flowmaster 40 series b/c i want that loud and obnoxius (?) growl out of this beast of a truck. i know flowmaster has the kit with the 70 series, part # 17406, but i want a 40 series. i was wondering if anyone has asked them to switch the 70 series out with a 40 series. i don't think they will but i guess it's worth a shot. i will try giving them a call tomorrow. an info would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

the 70 series is a much longer muffler than the 40's.Its not as simple as throwing in another muffler, they would also need to give you a pipe that would cover the inches lost in length.
thanks a lot SpeedFreak i was thinking that would be a problem. i know it would be possible to do with a slight modification. i am just wondering why flowmaster only offers this kit with one series type muffler.
The 70 series fits most people looking for an aggressive sound compared to stock. I think the 40's are much louder than the 70's and will not gain as much popularity due to the annoyance factor.

Call them and let us know what they say. There have been several here who have wanted a different muff with than the 70 ser supplied. I will eventually be doing this myself, although not with a Flowmaster muff....I'm leaning towards Borla or ??
I would think the 40 ser would be a little cheaper, but I dunno--haven't priced them. Assuming the center to center measurement on the dual 2.5" outlets are the same between the 70 and 40, you would only need a small straight section of 3" and a clamp to make up the diff on the inlet to the 40. Hek, Flowmaster might even throw that piece in for ya....worth a shot, anyway.
I have the kit, and for me, the 70 is the perfect sound, w/ the exception of the in-cab drone which seems to have worsened a little as the system has opened up over the last 5K miles that I've had the system. I couldn't fathom having the 40 or even 50 ser muffler, not on this motor, anyway.

Congratulations with your Titan purchase. Good choice.
BTW, not to 'jack your thread, you (I'm assuming you're from NJ) and anyone interested are invited to the NE meet at Valley Forge on July 10th starts @ 1130am. This may interest you : We're giving away a used (4 mo. old) true dual glasspack cat-back exhaust that was previously installed in my Titan prior to mt present set-up. See you there.
Any update? Did you end up swapping out mufflers? I am considering switching my 70 series for either a 50 or 40 series and am curious to see how much of a difference there is with the fitment.
i wound up having to buy the flowmaster 70 series kit in full and also buying a 40 series muffler to swap in. i had the kit installed about 3 weeks ago and don't regret it at all. the sound that comes out of the 40 series is unbelievable in my opinion. many people say it it too loud for them, but i like it. there is a drone at the normal rpm range (1700-2000), but it was also there with the stock muffler, but not as loud as the 40. there wasn't much of a fitment issue b/c they are both single in dual out mufflers. the y pipe that came with flowmasters kit just had to be extended b/c there is almost a 10 inch difference in length. thats about it. if you have any more ?'s just give me a PM.

Switched my 70 with the Borla XS muff...3" in X 2.5" out. Easy swap for the muff shop...cost me $80 for them to do it. I'm very happy with the sound of the Borla. Swapping to either a 40 or 50 should be no problem for any shop.
