Chevy SS v. Nissan Titan KC

Got your attention? I just picked up the July 2005 issue of Motor Trend and there is an article on the 2005 Chevy SS in it.

MT praises the Chevy's 6.0L OHV V-8, making 345 hp/375 lb-ft.

The truck as tested price is $36,780.

1/4 mi in 15.1 sec @ 90.5 mph.

OK. I paid $26K for my Titan and got 305 hp/379 lb-ft.

I know the Titan is a little slower, but is it worth $10K?!?!?!

For $10K LESS, I got a tow package rated at 9500 lbs, 4 Wheel Drive, 5 Speed Auto with a 4.10 equivalent rear end.

Am I missing something? We have MORE torque, MORE towing capacity, and LOWER price.

Why is the SS such a hot deal? Hell, I could pay $8K for the Stillen S/C installed and warrantied and it would STILL be $2K less than the Chevy SS!!!

Just thought I would share my thoughts on this matter with ya'll.

Who said the SS is a great deal? In fact the biggest strike against it that I've seen repeated over and over in the media is that it's overpriced...

I dont think I will be trading my Titan in on one....

If $36,780 is MSRP what would the actutal cost be to drive one off the lot?

Those GM incentives make the MSRP a joke.

Motor Trend was praising it as a good deal. And then at the end of the article stated that if one liked the Chevy SS, they should check out the Ford Lightning or Dodge SRT-10.

My point is an alternate truck with that kind of power and accelertion already exists for alot less. But was not even mentioned because Nissan doesn't have a "sport" model of the Titan.

Ummm, It's a Chevy, and it isn't a Corvette.

So I'll pass.

Realistically, I think you could deal one down to the high $20's. MSRP doesn't mean much, especially with GM. They're so artificially inflated to give wiggle room on rebates that it's a joke.

I love my Titan, but I gotta tell you, I love the way the SS looks. I'm not really into street/lowered trucks, but the Silverado would be on the short list if that's the market I was looking at.

They wouldn't price it lower for fear of losing market share on their silverado.

Its a sport truck and its in a different class.

Plus it hasn't been heavily redesigned in years...

I think the Silverado SS was brand new for 2004.

Guess again. The '04s were on dealer lots for around $40K. And then they wanted to deal down to $35K

It probally has a mechanical locker though! Why do the GM trucks come with them and no other trucks even offer it?

Two different breeds though. One is a sport truck, the other a real off-roader.

problem w/ "specialty" vehicles (read: SS, Cobra, t-bird, vw bug, etc...) is dealers like to add a premium to the sticker saying that its a hard vehicle to get. you may get some incentives but that will be it.

I think they are a good baseline if you want a lot of performance but aren't the new ones going to just be 2wd? I know the awd ones out now can be made to run low 14s with some simple mods. I like the front end but both the Chevy and the Dodge are looking a little dated, IMO.

No. They will offer a 2WD version but you can still get the AWD model.

amongst all the big trucks out there, it's a hands down that the we're getting the titan more for our money.

so what the titan does not have all the options that the other trucks have, but really, do you use them all or just have it for looks? etc....

i have no brand loyality, when it comes to my hard earn money, i want more out of it.
