Automate fee?!

Has anyone had to pay an "automate" fee? I am being told that I need to pay 300 for an automate fee on my soon to be titan. I dont get it the stuff is just like turtle wax and I didnt ask for it why should I pay for it? Anyone successfully get out of paying for this fee? Thanks - Chris

I can guarantee that if you tell them it's a deal breaker, and start walking out they will drop it.

Normally I would but Im getting it for 3100 under invoice and I dont want to blow it by walking out on it and having them call my bluff. But I guess I could always just turn around and walk back in haha. Ill give it a shot

I bought my Titan in Tucson and didnt have anything like that. So I dont think it is a state thing. I would try and get more details on it.

Thanks HAWK- I asked him about it and he said it was some type of application to the paint and the interior to "weather proof" it from the heat. I thought it was pretty shady, he also said that most if not all dealers in this region have it. I hope I can save the 300 he wants to charge me for it. Ill let him know that another AZ dealer doesnt charge for it. Later - Chris

It all depends on YOU. Eisenhaur Nissan didn't pull any of those profit builders on me, but the last new car I bought another dealer did.

I took the contract, crossed out everything I didn't ask for or want, and wrote my check based on that. I gave them the check without saying a word and they accepted it without saying a word.

I'd say drop it or walk. Believe me, if they've come down that much on price, $300 won't break their deal.

I suposedly got the "under coating" on my truck when it was new. I think it was $250 for that and scotch-guarding the interior (I have leather - can'd do it!). I tried to get out of paying it and I finally gave in after many discusion. It was like a tar that they sprayed onto my PLASTIC wheel house. They didn't even spray the underside of the truck with it just the stupid wheel houses! Anyway, it has all washed off in the 5 months I've owned it, so it was a CROCK!

I should make the idiots reapply it to the underside of the truck. You guys think they would?

I would take it in, along with sales contract stating "undercoating", and tell them that the "undercoating" just fell off. Then proceed to tell them that they need to "reapply" the undercoating to the underside of the truck, not wheel wells, at no charge or return the $250.

I lucked out this time (or I beat them into submission), they didn't try to push anything besides GAP insurance and the warranty. I think they wanted me out of there after the deal I made...

AutoMate and LexSheild are the two most popular Protection packages sold in the Phoenix area. The AutoMate isn't really a bad product if applied right, the LexShiild is cr*p. That $300 price should include a free reapplication every 6 months for the first 3 years. If you normally take your vehicle to a shop to hand wax the exterior every 6 months or so it doesn't work out to be too bad of a deal. If you normally wax it yourself then it is not a great deal but at least the product is decent. You can generally call it a deal breaker and get it deleted. Mine had the sticker on the windshield already but they had not even done the initial application so they dropped it readily.

I paid 300 bucks for the paint sealant & Interior scotch guard.. wish I didn't. Paint does look great can't say it's no working but it's buggin me not being able to wax it The scotch guard is a joke! I take very good care of my truck but did spill pop between my legs on to my seat NOT A LOT and mopped it up right away.. Still let a spot .. Been 3 weeks now didn't get spot out... Will be taking it in for them to get out... supossed to be under warranty for 2 years not to stain

JET- Thanks for the info, the dealer said it was already applied so he would charge me his cost price of 297. He said it is normally closer to 1000 to add. I think that is some bullsh*t because another dealer told me he it wasnt that expensive and takes 5 mins to apply. Since it has already been applied do you think I could still say its a deal breaker and get the price dropped? Thanks

Offer him $50 for his efforts so far or no deal. At $50 he is making money as long as he isn't giving you the 3 year warranty and reapplication. I'm betting it really hasn't been applied yet. I had a similar situation when I bought my GTO. The one I wanted was sitting at a dealer in Mesa and they said they could give me the sealant at cost but that is was already applied. Went to the dealer in Avondale and had them do a dealer trade for less money and no charge for any sealant or the glass engraving. The glass engraving had been done already at the Mesa dealer.
