Gas Gauge slow?

Today I had a weird thing happen after filling up with 24 gallons of gas...

the gas gauge still showed empty, what's more, since I have the LE with NAV, the miles to empty also said 36, and not the usual 402 it does after fillup...

and then I started driving away, thinking the gas pump must be wrong, and slowly the gas gauge starts going back up, but it takes about 1/2 hr before the gauge reads full...what's happening?

Jollysammy,

This happened to me once with my Armada. Since it never happened again I considered it a fluke. One thing about the single event is that I was bone dry when filling up -- more than ever before. It has not happened to me before on my Titan.

I have heard/read some have had this happen when they left the key in the on position to listen to the radio while filling. Is this a possibility with what happened to you?

I've never done this with my Titan, but my 02 Ford E250 work van is fueled with the ignition on, it doesn't even register until the truck is shut off and restarted.
Makes me wonder if it's just due to the nature of the new senders?

Mine did this before too and it also took about 1/2 hr to got to full. I was listening to the radio while I was pumping, so that could be it. I asked my dealer about it and, as usual, .

There is a TSB on the fuel sending unit which controls the gas guage. I had mine replaced. Never happened again.

My problem is with the gas guage that goes the other way, I've seen slower clocks...Seems like it drains pretty quick at 12.33 MPG...

Gas Gauge Slow

It happened once to my '05. The tank was near empty, but still registered as empty after I filled up. I didn't have the radio on, or the key in the ignition. It eventually showed full, and I have never had the problem since then.

Re: Gas Gauge slow?

I have an 06 with tow package, my gauge did not register full after filling the tank, they changed the sending unit. Couple of months later same thing, changed the sending unit again. Then I ran out of gas with 1/4 showing on guage. They changed out the cluster. Then it happened again, this time they couln't find anything wrong.

Otherwise I love my truck! Pulls my 8,000 + Travel Trailer with absolutely no problems.

I think Nissan needs to really investigate their fuel reading system.

Re: Gas Gauge slow?

That happened to me for the first time yesterday. Went to full in about 5 mins. That did not bother me as bad as using a 1/4 tank of gas to drive less than 80 miles highway.

Re: Gas Gauge slow?

my xterra's "service engine soon light" would come on if i filled up with the engine running, that being said i figured my 06 titan would do the same, If you turn the truck off completely, then turn to ACCESSORY position you will see the gas guage raise rapidly. I figure the computer resets itself.

Re: Gas Gauge slow?

Unfortunately with the Titan I have never had a problem with the gas guage being slow. Mine tends to do the opposite! Oh well big V8 will do that you.
