Had a muffler shop install twin Borla XS mufflers and cut off the factory Y pipe with straight tubing to the muffler. I've seen pictures where members did the same but had the pipes cross over in an X before entering the muffler. Why? I believe Sammy's and Gr8titan's were like this. Why is this necessary or important and why is it done? Thanks in advance.
I believe it also helps with backpressure. True straight through pipes lose a little more torque. I've seen dynos, not on the Titan, that showed that a true straight through design loses torque because there's almost no backpressure at all. Pulse cancellation is another reason I've read about.

I was told that it is more for back pressure than anything.
Here's a pic of my set up.

Click on this link: www.usantonio.com/ractive_exhaust.htm and you'll find a "compressed" research version of some of the theories/principles I dug up on "X-pipes", performance and mufflers in general prior to the fabrication of my exhaust system.
Check these 8 pages of custom exhausts made by my fabricator and notice how they balance the entire system.
Hope this helps.

Thanks brother, that answered all my questions. All I need to do is find an x-pipe at a good price.
I used to work for the guy who came up with the x-rossover. His name is Boyd Butler and his company is Dr. Gas. He supplies almost all the Nascar teams with their exhaust systems. He is big in the racing industry but everyone else supplies the street applications. You can go to his website Drgas.com and see some of the articles about the exhaust systems. It was through working for him that got me to work for Roush. He has just focused on the racing scene and not the street scene. He also has a great muffler design that is now being copied.
well i only have 1 flomaster one in two out so x pipe will not work for me.so now what
Not to worry. You already have a Y-pipe upstream. But unless the Y is the OEM (which is very restrictive), you may want to change it with an aftermarket version that is equal ID throughout for improved flow.

Ryan Hubbards post above has info of Dr. Gas' Y-pipe that is constant diameterVSthe restricted Titan OE y-pipe. Changing the OE Y-pipe gains you back some significant power lost to the very restrictive OE design. Shop around and you should get some good pricing for the Y's or maybe some TT members could lead you to their source/s. Hope this info helps
