New tires on the market!!

I am sick of these Good Year SRA's they only have a tread wear rating of 360 and they wear down to fast. I was having very little luck finding ANYTHING in the 18-inch rim size and an all terrain tire with a tread wear rating higher than 400. I have found a new tire on the market (Good year Forteras silent armor) that fits very nicely with a 620 tread wear rating and a 70,000 mile warranty. Can’t get much better than that for an all terrain tire. My SRA's cost $764.00 out the door and these cost $864.00 out the door and should last twice as long. There is a small size difference, the SRA's are 265/70/18 and these new tires are 285/60/18. A very slight height difference and width difference so no noticeable difference in the Speedo. There is a major difference in handling with these new tires, much more secure due to the tenasious grip and the width of the tire. I hope this info helps some of you in the same quandry as I have been. Good luck

Well, they sure look good. Did you buy four tires or five? A different sized spare could cause some problems, or not?

Did you mount the tires with the Goodyear Logo to the inside or are the tires non-raised white letter type.

Thanks.

There is no white lettering so the choice is to have the ridges out or the smooth side out. I did think about the different size spare but I think it will be ok because the hight differance is so small. I would like some more opinions on that subject.

You must not use a different size spare on the rear. If you have 4x4, not on front either. You will destroy the differentials. Sorry.

You may want to consider the following. These tires are slightly different in diameter. I have seen where it has been recommended that the difference in tire size should be within 3%. Here are the results when I plugged this into a tire calculator. The speedo 2.1 MPH off, and who knows if it will effect your odometer. Is your odometer registering 62 miles for every 60 driven? If so, that's an extra 1000 miles for every 30K driven. These concerns have been holding me back from getting this size tire.

WOW! That is more info than I could have expected. Thanks alot. That is why I love this site and spend $20 on it. Know does that make the tire differance in the 3% range?

You can do it as long as the diffrence is small, and you just use it to get somewhere to get the other fixed. I have done it a few times and saw no problems at all.

Yep, I concur. I've done it up to 1" difference (33" tire with 32" spare). If you have open differentials you wont even know there is a difference, even on pavement.

I'm getting 305/60/R18 Toyo Proxes S/T this monday. The tire size calculator says this tire is only 2mm smaller than the OEM, do you think it's all going to be fine?

Why is there difficulty in finding the exact tire size in the major brands?

Just wondering.

You're not a Titan owner until you go shopping for new tires

Go experience hell

You have plenty of choices as long as you pick Wrangler SRA's

But a set of 17" Off-Road wheels - there are quite a few options in that size.

18" rims. You just kill 90% of the competitors.
