Unhappy Your condolences please?!?!

Fellow titan enthusiasts...please lend me your kind words to help me through this rough time. Two weeks ago this Tuesday, I bought my first vehicle, an 05 CC SE 4x4...blizzard white, born on 03/05...how sweet it WAS...i was goin straight and had the right of way, and this car ignores its stop sign and darts outta a neighborhood on my right, causing me to swerve left in an attempt to avoid T-boning her. She clips my back right tire causing me to fish tail straight into a light pole...leaving my Brand new TITAN of less than two weeks, a total loss....severe frame damage, broken axles, shattered rims, the damn bed was separated from the cabin!! This B@#&! was 82 years old, and failed the breathalyzer FIVE TIMES!!! first off...wtf are u doin driving at 82? and secondly its bad enough that you're that old...but to be intoxicated too?!?!? I just registered for this foruma few days ago with high hopes and great plans for my new vehicle....but guess you guys will have to wait for a while...just needed to vent...thanks for your time...

Wow, that really sucks. I'm sorry for your misfortune. I just hope you or the old lady weren't hurt. Hopefully you'll be "back on the road again," soon.

I get the point that you want to vent, that's cool....but how do you figure that her age had anything to do with it? Sounds like the alcohol was the issue. I know many 80+ people that drive better than most of us "kids".
Either one of you hurt?

Sorry to hear about your truck, hope you and the bette half are both ok. The truck, while a loss, is not as important. Hope they get you back on the road in a new one soon.

I aggree that after a certain age, people just shouldn't drive. If you can't go to the bathroom by yourself, you shouldn't drive.

I agree as well. I have been begging for annual eye and driver exams for people over the age of 70. I mean they should have to get in the car with an instructor and take a even longer version of the exam every single year! Let's see how many are still able to pass that. Look, just the other day the Pet store here in town had some old 84 woman drive her car into the front of the store. Apparently she "mistook" the gas for the brake pedal. That is the 3 time in the last month and a half I have heard of such crazy sh*t. I'm not sayin young people drive any better, but It seems every time you turn around, the cause of some accident is a senior citizen who can't even see over the dashboard in their '85 oldsmobile! Enough is enough! Damn!

Glad your Titan fulfilled it's destiny. I've posted this on occasion, but I don't give a flip about my Titan if it has protected me and my family from harm, it's disposable, life and injury to my family are not. As far as old people driving, I don't have an answer for that (I'm only 41), it's a complex issue that's for sure.

Hope nobody was hurt. Probably lucky it was declared a total loss, versus having them do $20,000 in repairs.

Anyone remember that story that was posted here about the old lady who went to a dealer to test drive a car and subsequently ran over her husband and crashed the car after nailing the gas? Quick, someone find it.

Sorry about your Titan brother, I hope everything works for you. I know after all that venting, you are still pretty pissed, look on the bright side, you could have lost your life instead of the truck. Damn dog, I feel your pain!

Very sorry for your loss.
Glad that you are OK. Those side curtain air bags had to help quite a bit!
You will find that we enjoy seeing the aftermath of carnage here. Any pics of the wreck? I am curious to see how the bed came detached from the frame.

What was the police report's estimate of your speed hitting the pole?

Knowing my luck the old bag that hits me is not going to have a license (couldn't pass the vision test) and therefore, won't be insured. WHAM. There goes my rates.

I personally know 3 different people who are 82 or up and drive. Although Ive never actually witnessed them going to the bathroom, It's a safe assumption since they are family members and I associate with them regularly that they go to the bathroom just fine by themselves (excluding any fiber all or laxitives they might buy). This comment as well as another I saw on past it demonstrate the ignorance of our society. I do agree that senior citizens should have more frequent vision/reaction tests for ther licenses but to imply they cause more accidents is ludicrous. Although a few of you have pointed out a small amount of news reports that glamorize the idea that senior citizens are hell on wheels, the facts just don't support it. But if I were to agree to that, I also think restrictions should be put on the 15-17 group that limit all driving to work or school or with a licensed adult.

The real stories the papers and TV are missing are the ones about 15-18 year olds who are dying on our highways every day, and a fair number of those are alcohol related.

Here are the real statistics from NHTSA.
15-20 year olds account for 13.8% of all fatalities. (Majority are male by 3-1)
70+ account for 8.4% of all fatalities.

The largest share of fatalities actually belong to the 25-55 group, which claims 55.6%. This statistic is slightly misleading though because it encompasses a much larger percentage of age. It is broken down in 5-10 year increments on the NHTSA webpage. This group is also the highest volume of drivers on the road because they have the largest number of commuters on the road.

The smallest percentage of fatalities belongs to 65-69 group ar 2.8%.

Go ahead and flame away...but I couldn't let a few of the statements condemning our WW2 generation pass by without challenge.

As for the original poster, I really hate that for you. The alcohol was obviously a key factor. I hope she had good insurance!
