Problems removing the oil filter.

It appears that the oil filter is not a screw off/on
I cant figure out how to get it off and I do not want to screw something up
I knew something was up when the filter wrench was too large
Anyone know how to remove the old oil filter and install the new one?

The new filter I bought is a 7317

It is on very tight by the factory. I had to punch the side with a large screwdriver and turn it to get enough torque. Just keep trying, and don't put it on that tight when you install the new one.

Good luck.

The filter screws off/on. I would go to an auotparts store and buy the correct size of socket type oil filter wrench.

Oil Filter

For some odd reason Nissan has an 800lb gorilla putting oil filters on in the engine plant. I had to punch through the filter with an awl, I was then able to remove it without any problem. Its a pain in the @ss the first time.

Go pick up a strap wrench. Works great in the tight space.

You guys are making me feel like a hero. I didn't have a filter wrench that was small enough, so I spun mine off by hand. Perhaps it was the adrenaline rush when I realized the wrench wasn't going to work and I had already drained the oil.

The screwdriver hammering and twisting of the new "handle" worked the first time for me too. Just a bit messy.
Common sense: MAke sure you pierce almost @ the end of the filter so you don't damage the threads that protrude from the underside of the block

I had the same problem. Had no filter wrench so I wraped the filter with sandpaper and gave it a try off it came.

It was a load the first time I did it. Mad me mad as @#$$. I was changing it over a pit and had a good view and couldn't get it off. Went to Advance and bought a socket type wrench. Put a universal on my ratchet and an 8" extension and it came right off.

Filter question

I was just at AutoZone picking up some supplies to use changing oil. The salesman looked up the Fram/STP numbers and got out the filters it said the truck uses. The filters he had were very small, to small for even the "A" socket that we found to fit the PT Cruiser. I opened the hood and looked down at the filter and it just looked larger to me so I decided to wait on purchasing the socket. Does anyone know what filter socket size Titan filters take?

My Collection

I have several tools for oil filters. The one that has the jaws and uses a ratchet or breaker bar probably works the best for stubborn filters, but its shortcoming is it is only for removal.
