Dropped it off at 8am. Called to come get it 11:30am
Truck was only driven 3 miles while they had it.
Did a walk around and looked close at the rotors. Seemed thicker. No observable problems or new damage.
Being the untrusting guy that I am with dealerships, I decided when I got home to check the lug nuts and remove one tire for the eventual pic request from somebody here.
Took off the left front tire when I got home and noticed fluid/oil all around the inside of the rubber part of the tire. Then noticed it around the wheel well area, alittle under the truck, on the frame and back towards the gas tank. Not a crazy bad amount, but not hard to spot. More fluid than I have spilled in an engine compartment in all my years combined.
Then I noticed it looked like it dripped down from the area where you fill up brake fluid. Popped the hood and it looks like the tech either a.) spilled fluid or b.) took a line off that squirted fluid or c.) fluid came out of the reservoir when he pushed the calipers out to get the pads on. It was on the painted surface of the engine bay just under the brake fluid reservoir and had dripped down toward the wheel and everything inbetween. No dripping or leaks observed when I looked though.
Took pics of the new rotors, pads, etc (and fluid spill) and put the tire back on. Checked all the lug nuts. Rinsed off the areas spilled upon. Called the dealer for an explanation. The service desk guy said I could bring it back out for them to check it out if I wanted. He said that if the reservoir was full and the brakes worked it was probably just fluid that came out of the reservoir when they pushed the calipers out to put the pads on. I don't think I need to run back out to the dealer, wait an hour and have them rinse it off.
Anyways, hoping it's just an innocent mistake or routine and that it can be rinsed off and not become a major problem. Reservoir is past the full line. Brakes seem to work fine. I do notice that when sitting still (not moving) the pedal still goes all the way to the floor boards, but not when braking. When braking it feels fine. The pedal feels like it had much less travel and the brakes grab ahold much sooner and stronger. Don't feel like I need to pump the pedal when braking anymore.
Your calipers were replaced so your entire system had to be bled at each wheel. It does look like a bit of a messy job they did but should only be cosmetic.

They do not replace the calipers on the upgrade, no need to disconnect any lines. The tech did not remove fluid from the master cylinder before pushing the pistons back in the calipers, so the excess fluid overflowed.

What?
I see the rotors are new, but I don't see the calipers being replaced...
I do not believe this is a new caliper, it does look like the caliper mounting bracket is new, but not the caliper.

The calipers AND rotors are replaced on the new final fix. The new calipers are wider to handle the new wider rotors. If they didn't change the calipers, you didn't get the NEW fix...you got the cover-up fix.
If they just made a mess by pushing the calipers in and the master cylinder overflowed, the mess wouldn't be at each wheel...as shown in the pics. The mess would be in the engine compartment.

Well that spill was caused by someone not thinking. If the pads going on are thicker than the ones coming off you must check the level of the fluid prior to compressing the pistons. If the reservoir is full you will have a spill, some of the old fluid needed to be removed prior to doing the complete job.
Although going back to the dealership may be a big hassle I would most definitely do it. How much do you know about brake fluid? Well let me just say, it is NOT a friendly chemical. If you do not go to the dealership and get their screw-up documented where will you be if the paint discolors and flakes off and you get premature rust? Or worse yet it gets on electrical connections and wires and causes nasty problems down the road.
From that pic, that was a LOT of spilled fluid!

You have two choices in life:
You can stay single and be miserable,
or get married and wish you were dead.
I stand corrected. The caliper BRACKETS are replaced along with the pads and rotors. The brackets allow for a wider rotor. I was misinformed. Thanks.
Also, the rear rotors and pads are part of the fix...though the rear caliper brackets are unchanged.

The rotors are not wider. They are exactly the same as the old ones, 1.2". They made the vent area narrower so the solid sides of the rotor are thicker.
FLfinfan and others, thanks for the good info. I took delivery of an 05 a week or so ago. I wondered exactly what 'state of evolution' my brakes were in. Thanks to this post and the good pics I know. I have the second generation rotors, torque members etc. I think my pads were old school though... rims dirty after only 150mi, strange feel etc. I posted this a few days ago. 05 brake observations and new pads Thanks again and I love this site!

Rear rotors are not replaced....only turned as part of the brake fix. Front/rear pads are replaced with a newer design which has a higher copper content, from what I've been told.
Like scr38 mentioned, new front rotors are the same overall width as the old ones...they just added more mass to the inside disc at the cost (hopefully not a problem) of removing some of the center vent.
Oh....did I mention....I love these new brakes!

I called the dealer (a friend works in parts) and was read the info over the phone. Front AND rear rotors are replaced along with all new pads front and rear. New front caliper brackets too. The rear rotors and pads are replaced because they are slightly different. They did this apparently because there's too much front bias AND the new front rotors are of a different make-up. So they are supposed to be changing the rears as well according to Nissan.

Had my final fix done 3 weeks ago. So far so good.
Front rotor and brake pads replaced only.
Rear pads replaced and rotors turned.
That's it.
The front rotors are identical in width. Only change is more steel. Most obvious difference is the extra material on the inside circumference of the disk. There is now a 45 degree slope vs a 90 degree slope originally.
So far so good. I can't tell any difference other than it's smooth now when braking.
Very happy with the new brake performance. Not happy with the screw-up/spill. I rinsed everything down good but the control arm you see in the pic has already lost paint where the fluid is in the pic. How am I gonna get the dealer to document a mistake. What are they gonna do. Put it on official Nissan/dealer letter head? The most I see them doing is rinsing it off and spray painting it. I can do that myself without anymore damage to something else. I will probably still swing by there today and show them the fluid all over the tire rubber and control arm and ask that they do something to document it incase an electrical connection or something else fails.

???
Can someone explain that in more detail.
If my '05 ever shows up I would love to know what generation brake parts I have. It was made in May, although I don't have the born on date yet as it is still on a truck someplace trying to get delivered to my city.
