"blue balls" for Half Shovel - the end of the Titan saga.

Hi all,

Well here it is....I've got quarter shovel number 2 coming in January. It's great news, sure, but it was also the nail in the coffin of my Titan. What's with the "blue balls"? Read on...

A couple of weeks ago my Titan went in for its 17th repair in 13 months. Yeah, 17. This one was 2 broken motor mounts. Minor stuff.

Before y'all start flamin' with the "all trucks have problems" and "first model year" and all, I understand that. Unfortunately for me, my Titan has been back for service more times than the last 4 cars I owned put together. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I've never had a vehicle break this often.

Now, with Titan resale value falling faster than pants on a hooker, I dedided to trade my Titan on a family hauler. I was going to get a Suburban, but with gas at $2.30 and climbing, a minivan won out. Speaking of not holding their value, a nearly new Chrysler Town and Country can be had for about 1/2 the price of a used Titan.

One thing I will say, of the dealers I shopped, none wanted my Titan. I also tried selling it outright for a reasonable price (27K), and got very little in the way of response. I've been watching KBB values, and they're dropping pretty quickly.

Damn, ya know. I really liked driving the Titan when it wasn't rattling, ticking or shedding motor mounts. Seriously, I'm not being a smartazz. The last day I had it (Wed), I was crusing around the Twin Cities, having a blast laying down power.

But, it's gone, and now there's this medium blue family tube sitting in my garage. It's hard to argue the utility of the damn thing, but I feel like my nuts have been severed and thrown in a jar. Therefore, my new blue van has a permanent name...BLUE BALLS.

Much like tubes being tied, this situation is reversable... Someday you'll have the oportunity to get back in the mix.

I hear the soccer mom mobile is quite a bargain these days. Loaded models are going for less that $18k. Tough to pass that up with another "snot machine" on the way.

I'll take a new baby over a Titan any day. I wanted a third child but my wife turned me down. I'll have to go find a girlfriend and knock her up. LOL
I'm sure you'll still hang out with us, no matter what color your balls are...

I feel your pain. I gave up my last manual tranny sports car when clone number two came along and traded for a Dodge Caravan. 14 years of purgatory later, I got my Titan.

Minivans work for the family but they are the current version of the 60's station wagon.

I know you did the right thing but sometimes the right thing feels just plain "wrong."

Ah, fatherhood, the rewards are many but so are the "punishments", LOL.

Good luck HS, with quarter shovel #2!!!

Half Shovel, I know we all like to think our trucks are worth a lot, but 27K is pretty high, considering the pricing of new trucks on the lot today. Heck, I only paid 27K for my KC LE 4x4 last September (MSRP $33,800), and I know that if I sold it today at 8500 miles, I'd maybe see 22K, but first I'd have to find someone to buy it! That's the price of buying new.

As far as the minivan goes, don't sweat your ride, enjoy your family instead, but don't look for any slack here though!

Best of luck, Daddy-O!

We have the 04 Quest for the 3 kids. The Titan is mine! You only have one car in the family? I wish!...lol. With our oldest in HS, and the youngest that's 8, the minivan is just for convenience.
I understand...congrats on the new addition. your "TOY" day will return. You did the right thing! Best of luck!

Is this a typo?

You contradict youself within your story.... you say Titans don't hold their value but then you say a new minivan is less than a used Titan, which would imply that a used Titan is expensive, thus holding its value. I don't get it??
