Well the time has come that I have some extra cash and will pay the Titan off next month. I love every aspect of the truck except the gas mileage while towing. I realize that I am pushing the tow capacities of this truck and that is probably the reason for the poor gas mileage(recent trip was 7.8 on the flats and 5.3 in the hills pulling app 9k lbs.). I'm torn on whether I should just suck it up and live with the gas mileage or trade for something that would handle a load of this size a little better. I'm looking at a super clean 99 F250 Lariat Power Stroke w/ a 4" lift, 35's and 67k miles for asking price of 21k. This is the part that hurts, I owe 37k on my Titan, got really screwed on the vehicle I traded for the Titan, but I really liked the truck sooooo. I'm thinking that I can probably save some money trading and the I would have a vehicle really meant to be hauling the amount of weight I have to tow and in the long run I may also save on not having to costly repairs to the Titan that may occur(Trans, rear end etc.).
I'm telling all this hoping to get some outside opinions and maybe get some other points of view that maybe I'm not thinking of. And yes I know I got screwed when I bought my Titan, so please don't rub it in. LOL
Thanks.

From experience I'll tell you your mileage with a power stroke will not be much if any better than with the Titan while towing 9K pounds.
The diesel mileage will be much better in day to day driving.
But, checked the price of diesel lately? In my area it's higher than highest octane gas.
I'd crunch the numbers carefully because you'll really take it in the rear getting rid of the Titan now. With Ford and GM selling at or below employee discount prices on new why buy used?
I would advise you to pay off the Titan and keep it. With no truck payment, who cares about milage?...the lack of any payment will be cheaper than buying a new truck that gets 40 MPG! Dontcha think?

Actually, I'd rather keep the cash in the bank and make payments than to be cash poor when that rainy day rolls over you.

You have two choices in life:
You can stay single and be miserable,
or get married and wish you were dead.

Even with the employee pricing I think I will still be at or most likely above 37k after trade-in and covering the over. If I go used I can save a few thou.
Diesel gas is the same price as reg unleaded here.

towing a 9,000 lb load with a powerstroke, will net you about 12-13.5 miles per gallon, add a tuner, exhaust, intake and maybe gain about 2 to 2.5 miles per gallon more, diesel right now in my area is about 2.60 a gallon, my truck gets about 19-21 mpg empty on the freeway (2005 F250 6 liter 4x4) with every performance add on pretty much. .................(You owe $37,???,) Dealers wont suck up your negative equiety (sp.?) The msrp on the employee price is about $10,000 cheaper than the regular asking price, say a fully loaded Lariat F250 6 liter is $47,000, right now its about $37,000+-, dealer cant sell for more due to employee pricing, trust i've asked, been there done that. ............
What style Titan do you have? I would try to sell on the street fair price, pay the buyer the difference (hence you have money to pay it off), take those $25,000+ dollars to dealer and buy yourself a new employee priced F250 Lariat diesel, fully loaded. Offer ends Aug. 1st. You'll end up owing under $15,000 for a new truck, take their (Ford) 3.9% i think for 48 months and be at about $355.00 a month.. Thats a good deal. .................................... Good day .
About your style on the Titan i read towards the bottom. Im sure someone wants a Titan pretty much setup like yours for mid 20's, trade in value is about $23-24,000 depending on your mileage.
i wouldnt trade in the truck. i will either keep it and continue paying it off. if you owe so much i wouldnt send the whole full amount. what if worst comes to worst and u are in need of extra cash that you dont have because you paid off your truck. my opinion the titan does good towing. i have seen it perform quite well, im sure this is why nissan titans are one of the best selling trucks out there.
