I just received a case + 2 quarts of AMSOIL 0w-30 Series 2000 oil. I am around 600 miles on my new Titan and itching to dump the factory oil. Unfortunately they back ordered my filters. If I don't see them soon I guess I will try to find a Purolator around town.
I am wondering how long the people using this or similar oil go between oil changes? I was thinking about doing 7500 mile changes for the first 35000 to stay within the guidelines. The oil lists 30,000 as the change time that sounds pretty dern long. I am wondering what you people are doing?
I am in North Metro Atlanta, get stuck in traffic jams and occasionally pull a trailer for short distances (usually light loads of building materials etc.).

Mike, the Amsoil XL-7500 oil is forumlated for the changes you specified, and it's a good bit cheaper also, you might won't to consider that next time. But to answer the 30,000 mile question, The series 2000 oil like you have is good for up to 35k or one year, and Amsoil recommends changing the filter at six month intervals or 12,500 miles and of course adding one quart to refill the oil lost during the filter change. And on your backordered items, if you live in Atlanta you products will be shipped out of Orlando, Florida and your backordered items should come to you in about a week, they will ship out of another warehouse in the US. Mike here's a link so you can read all about it. Oh, Mike you made a wise choice buying Amsoil, the best quality synthetics you can buy and there not massed produced like Mobil 1.
Thanks for the input. You sound like an AMSOIL dealer?
Other than an oil that suits my driving conditions my main interest are: increased time between oil changes, gas mileage, and an oil that can handle both winter and summer in Atlanta. I am a low mileage driver doing many short trips. I have a room at Home Depot & Lowes. During the course of a year, I will get caught in many long traffic jams and pull a trailer with building supplies and or my Kabota 2900 Tractor (about 4000 lbs with the Loader and a rear attachment). Unless of course we break down and buy a Camper.
I was thinking that if I used the series 2000 and changed oil every 12,500 miles ( recommended change time on an AMSOIL oil filter) then I would be paying about the same cost for oil and cut my labor almost in half.
I wonder how people change oil filters without changing oil. I guess if you have the replacement ready and move fast the loss should not be to great? I see on the AMSOIL sight that they sell all sorts of oil filter tandem and by-pass systems, maybe one of these contraptions would allow one to change a filter without oil loss?
Series 2000 every 12,500 seemed like a more effective solution. I am going to change my own oil and with 12 acres to look after my time is precious. I have read some posts claiming that dealers may void warranties if oil is not changed at least every 7500 and some others saying that they can't void anything if they do not have proof that the oil caused a problem.
Looking at AMSOIL's recommendations, changing series 2000 at 12,500 instead of 35,000 looks better than changing the XL at the recommended limit of 7,500.

The filter is MUCH higher than the drain plug. Most of the oil drains down into the pan, and comes out the drain plug. If you are just changing filters, you will lose whatever is in the filter and then a bit coming through the lines right there that doesn't drain down to pan level.
I have been running one year changes in an 89 Mustang for at least 6 years. I drag race and runs some Solo 2 also. I added the dual remote filter a few years ago and I may consider this ion the Titan also. Oh the XL 7500 is not 100% synthetic.
I am thinking in terms of annual changes too. In my situation annual should be more like 10- 15,000 miles which I am thinking the AMSOIL 0w-30 should weather with little trouble. I am considering changing filters at 6 month (5- 7,500) intervals. It sounds like even without any type of filter by-pass that the oil loss will be minor and easily replaced.
I read a little about the "by-pass (double)" filters on the AMSOIL site but I have no idea if they make any type of sense on a Truck being used for normal family chores.
I just changed out my oil for the first time. It looks to me like it will take about 7 instead of 6.5 quarts to make the change with a new filter. I have over 6.5 in her now and she still is short of the max line.
Unfortunately I broke one of the screws that holds the metal plate guarding the filter etc.. Pretty sorry screw/bolt IMHO sense I broke it with a short ratchet and moderate hand pressure. I have never been able to do that bare handed before. I would like to think I was getting stronger but at 55 that is highly unlikely. Guess I will see if I have enough left to get it back out in a little while but I fear I may have to drill it or some other more drastic measure to get it out. I am also considering letting Nissan deal with it. I think the screws were already damaged as it was very hard to get them out. The filter was also on very tight requiring that I bend and maul it to get it off.
If the bolts were really really tight, they were probably over torqued and that's why the one broke. they should all be replaced. The idea with the Dual Remote filter is that you fill it and change your filters and just top off the oil. You don't change it until oil analasys reports say they need to be changed. When I change the oil every year with the dual remote my sponsor tells me "You're wasting oil!!"
I run the 2000 in my vehicles and while under warranty change it at the max manufacturers recommendation, 7,500 for the Titan. After warranty I run 15,000 miles with a filter change at 7,500. You will only lose what is in the filter and a bit more from the lines.
Mike, I've been using the 0w-30 S2K since it came out in '94 or '95. The 35k intervals are for absolutely ideal conditions. Nobody on earth has ideal conditions. While the Amsoil oil filters are great filters, the Titans filters are simply way too small. That significantly hinders the 12.5k intervals. My suggestion would be to change the filter at 5-7k. When you take the filter off only a small amount of oil will come out. You would put a new filter on and put maybe a 1/2 quart or so fresh oil back in. The added oil also helps put more additives into your oil, which will help rejuvenate it. You would have to do oil analysis to find how long "YOU" can go, but after you find that number there is no reason to continue to get oil analysis. The Titan should be good for 15k or so intervals with the S2K. It's too early for you to change the oil. Nissans engines take a very long time to break in. Maximas for example need 10k or so before switching to synthetic. I'm not saying you can't switch earlier, I did at the first oil change for both my Maxima and Titan. When you do this however, it takes much longer for the metals to simmer down to normal levels. I can go 15k on the S2k with 3 filter changes before the oil starts to break down. It's my daily driver and I'm in Washington DC rush hour for 3-4 hours M-F. Since my wife only goes about 13k a year on the Titan, once a year will probably be fine for her. Our old Durango did it and Blackstone reports showed I could have gone another 6 months. The Durango had a huge oil filter though. There is absolutely no way on Gods green earth it will last the 35000 miles stated on the bottle unless you put a bypass system in. Then 100,000 mile drain intervals could be achieved. I would wait until 2500-3000 before putting the Amsoil in.
There are retail accounts out there, but it will usually be some place like a cycle shop, or a specialty performance shop or something like that. If you call the toll free they can tell you if there is a retail dealer near you. It's also sold MLM and there are independant dealers scattered everywhere. Most do not hold any stock on hand, some do. I do not because when I need something it gets here in 2 or 3 days. I have a few quarts on hand if I need one.
I have heard that, but never have come across any information to support this claim, where did you find that at? I submitted that question to the Amsoil tech line yesterday.

XL 7500 went semi-synthetic about 2 years ago when there was a price hike, they did it to keep the price lower. Now the XL 7500 is going obsolete, being replaced with the "XL line" this is still pretty new and whether they have gone back to full synthetic with the change I'm not sure. I hope they did, because I have never been wild about mixtures, it seems a cheap way to do something. I suppose it does truely prove that it's compatible with conventional oil though. The information I have comes from the web site and any print literature I have.

I am interested in the dual-remote. I did not find a cost so I guess I will go search the AMSOIL site again. I wonder if anyone who has the dual-remote would care to comment on installing it on a Titan?
I am a little shaky on exactly what they do too. I believe they filter the oil better and provide a way to change filters easier, am I close?
